Bohemian-Made Baritone for Thomas "Schiffko" Zsivkovits!
The Cerveny CEP 531-4 T TZ Signature Baritone by Thomas Zsivkovits combines design elements and production techniques from the golden era of traditional Czech brass instrument making. Together with innovative, ergonomic features, it fully meets the demands of today's discerning baritone players.
Schiffko's baritone responds easily and stands out for its excellent handling, solid intonation, and the "singing sound" Cerveny baritones are known for. The CEP 531-4T TZ is a true workhorse and a loyal companion, designed for use in brass bands but equally at home with concert repertoire—as Thomas Zsivkovits has already impressively demonstrated with Thomas Gansch's "Blasmusik Supergroup."
High-Quality Components and Thoughtful Features for Comfortable Playing
The body, valve section, bell, and valve caps of the CEP531-4T TZ are made of brass (lightweight), ensuring clear intonation and a good response throughout the range. The mouthpipe and inner slides are made of nickel silver, which significantly extends their service life, while the main tuning slide is made of red brass.
The adjustable thumb ring and adjustable main tuning slide trigger, operated with the left hand, ensure excellent handling. The valve section features Minibal linkage, ensuring smooth, reliable valve action. The water key is mounted on the main tuning slide.
The baritone comes in a sturdy hard case, of course.
About Thomas Zsivkovits
From 1996, Thomas Zsivkovits attended preparatory trombone classes with Professor Erik Hainzl (Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria) at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Oberschützen campus. From 2002 to 2003, he studied with visiting professor Harald Matjacic (Vienna Volksoper). In March 2003, he passed his first diploma examination in concert trombone with distinction.
Zsivkovits completed his military service with the Burgenland Military Band in Eisenstadt. He then studied with renowned Vienna Philharmonic bass trombonist Professor Johann Ströcker. He passed his subsequent diploma examination in classical instrumental and vocal pedagogy, specializing in trombone, with distinction. He earned his bachelor's degree in concert trombone in 2007 and his Master of Arts in 2008.
"Schiffko" has made a name for himself in the German-speaking brass band scene as a brass soloist (tenor horn, baritone, trombone, bass trumpet), as well as a composer and arranger. He founded and led the legendary "Blaskapelle Tschecharanka" and was a member of "eine kleine dorfMusik." He also performs with various ensembles and projects in jazz and popular music.
Thomas Zsivkovits currently teaches low brass at the Johann Sebastian Bach Music School in Vienna and the J.M. Hauer Music School in Wiener Neustadt. He plays with Thomas Gansch's brass band supergroup and talks with brass band legends and music professionals on his podcast, "Schiffkos Music Talk."

The mechanism on the baritone runs a bit "sluggishly."
The mouthpiece shank is too large; it wobbles slightly and doesn't seal completely. (But I use my own mouthpiece anyway.)
