J. Scherzer 8228L - 100 Percent Made in Germany!

All professional Johannes Scherzer rotary valve trumpets are entirely crafted in Germany. The 8228L’s body is made of gold brass, with the hand-hammered bell crafted from brass. This rotary valve trumpet impresses with its nickel silver valve casing featuring bronze cylinders, as well as high-quality inner and outer slides made of nickel silver.

The instrument features water keys on the main tuning slide and on the 3rd valve slide. A trigger is mounted on the 3rd valve slide.

3B Joint System

Unlike conventional rotary valve joint constructions, the innovative 3B joint system uses two bronze-mounted steel ball bearings per valve to ensure ideal power transmission to the valve, located at the valve stem foot and at the end of the push rod to the wing.

3B stands for "Bronze Ball Bearing." To fully leverage the advantages of this high-quality ball/bearing combination, a spring at the valve stem foot ensures smooth operation and a soft pressure feel similar to string mechanisms.

About Johannes Scherzer

In 1900, Emil Knoth founded the brass instrument workshop "Rino" in Markneukirchen. His son Kurt Knoth took over the workshop at Mosenstr. 13 in 1935 and trained his nephew Johannes Scherzer, who passed the master craftsman exam in 1951 and took over the workshop leadership in 1961.

Since 1970, all instruments have been engraved with "J.Scherzer" (while retaining the original "Rino" trademark). The Scherzer workshop was integrated into the brass and signal instrument factory (B&S), today B&S GmbH, in 1984.

Johannes Scherzer’s high B/A piccolo trumpet (Scherzer model 8111, see image) with rotary valves in classic design was and remains pioneering, especially indispensable for performing baroque trumpet concertos.

Johannes Scherzer passed away on April 27, 2018, at the age of 95 in his workplace Markneukirchen. He would have celebrated his 100th birthday on August 10, 2022.
