Experience Yamaha STJ Silent Brass!
Brass Resonance Modeling is a Yamaha technology that effectively cancels the characteristic muted sound of a mute and reproduces the open, natural tone of the unmuted instrument. This reduces stress for players, allowing them to practice and play freely without feeling restricted by the mute.
Brass Resonance Modeling uses three simultaneous processes to create the realistic sound of a brass instrument.
Player Mode

1. Cancellation of the Distinctive Mute Tone
The sound captured by the microphone at the end of the mute is digitally processed to cancel the characteristic "closed" mute sound.

2. Adding the Natural Sound of the Instrument
The natural sound emanating from the bell and returning to the player’s ears when the instrument is played without a mute is reproduced and added.

3. Adjusting Left-Right Balance to the Player’s Position
The timing, volume, and tone of the sound reaching the player’s left and right ears are individually adjusted, and reverb is added if needed to accurately simulate the playing experience in a room or hall.
Sound Mode
The Personal Studio STJ offers two sound modes. The "Player" (PLY) mode lets the player hear the natural sound of the instrument, while the "Audience" (AUD) mode delivers a natural sound to the listener. In AUD mode, listeners hear the sound of the instrument played in front of them, making it ideal for recordings or online lessons.

Audience Mode
1. Cancellation of the Distinctive Mute Tone
The sound captured by the microphone at the end of the mute is digitally processed to cancel the characteristic "closed" mute sound.

2. Adding the Natural Sound of the Instrument
The natural sound emanating from the bell and audible to the audience when the instrument is played without a mute is reproduced and added.

3. Adjusting Left-Right Balance to the Listener’s Position
The timing, volume, and tone of the sound reaching the audience’s left and right ears are individually adjusted, and reverb is added if needed to precisely simulate the feeling of hearing the sound on stage from the audience seats.

Reverb
With better control over the reverb, the player can simulate playing environments ranging from small practice rooms with relatively low reverb to large halls with rich, dense reverberation.

Micro USB

When the Personal Studio STJ is connected to a computer or smart device via the included USB cable, it’s possible to record at home or participate in online lessons. No audio interface or complicated wiring is required. The Personal Studio STJ is not just a personal practice device but a tool that lets the player connect with the world from home.
