Protec PL239 Gigbag for Tenor Trombone

I compared this gig bag with the Protec IP-306 CT and ultimately chose this one. (The latter is more of a full-fledged case.)

The bag is very light and very comfortable to carry. The three exterior pockets can really hold a lot of accessories. The trombone stand would even fit into the long exterior pocket, although the handles wouldn’t be able to close with the Velcro strap anymore. But that doesn’t affect the interior space or security.
The large pocket easily holds a (not too thick) music folder—in other words, a thick stack of A4 sheets in a binder or document sleeve fits without any problems. I sometimes store the music stand tray (the kind that screws on) in there—it fits even with the slightly protruding screw mount. In addition, the large pocket has a zippered compartment where you can store other small items (pens, wallet, etc.).
The mouthpiece is stowed in the smallest pocket in a closable holder. There’s even room for more there, such as a glasses case or a marching fork.
So, aside from a really thick sheet music folder, you can fit almost everything you need inside.

And what about storing the trombone itself?
I was a bit skeptical at first. The trombone is placed “upright” in the bag, not “flat on its side.” I had to experiment a bit with the included padding until I found a firm and secure position. But it works wonderfully now and is safe. There’s also enough space. My trombone has an open wrap and is relatively long, but there’s absolutely no risk of it coming into contact with the zipper. The bell is well protected by the padded border.
The slide is also stored inside—which I definitely find more practical for putting it in and taking it out—and is completely separated from the trombone by a long padded divider. There’s plenty of room here, too.
I no longer have any concerns about storing and transporting the trombone. Since it’s a bag-style gig bag, the lid is soft, so it’s not a full-fledged case. I wouldn’t feel comfortable just tossing the bag among other hard objects, such as into the luggage compartment of a tour bus. However, the other exterior sides (the front and the two “side panels”) are sufficiently sturdy and equipped with plastic feet for standing. The bag is really well-suited for personal, everyday transport! As mentioned above—it’s also very comfortable to carry. At first, I was skeptical about the fact that the bag is set down on the bell side but turned exactly the other way around for carrying (bell up)—but even then, nothing happens to the instrument once the padding is properly secured.
The only thing I don’t use is the shoulder strap. The eyelets are positioned in such a way that the bag then sits somewhat uncomfortably over the shoulder (for my taste).
Overall, I’m really very satisfied with this case—it offers plenty of storage space, the instrument can be stowed safely yet quickly and easily, and it’s also very comfortable to carry as a backpack.

The Protec IP-306 CT is actually a hard case, which makes it heavier and less comfortable to carry, and the additional storage compartments are fewer and less practical. The biggest advantage is that the trombone is stowed even more securely in it; otherwise, I found this case significantly less practical for my needs.

The gig bag is very lightweight, very durable, and protects the trombone well;
the zippers glide smoothly, and the gig bag fits the trombone snugly,
so that the trombone sits securely inside.
The only drawback is that the pocket for the trombone stand is very small; with a sturdy stand,
the zipper won’t close, and the handles are so tight that the gig bag isn’t very comfortable to carry.

In addition to the really sturdy workmanship, I was particularly impressed by the many pockets with plenty of storage space.
The long, narrow pocket has space for the music stand, while the large pocket on the lid easily fits A4 music books or a tablet. The small bag also has an extra compartment inside for the mouthpiece. The bottle of lubricant for the slide also fits in there.
Finally, the main part of the bag holds the trombone, which can be individually adjusted thanks to the flexible padding.
My additional highlight was the small pocket with the zipper in which the marching fork is safely stowed so that nothing can get scratched.
All in all, this is a bag that really has room for everything for the next gig.
