Yamaha Updates MX Synthesizer Series: New Models For Stage & Studio With FM Synthesis App!

Fresh colors for fat FM sounds: Yamaha presents its revamped MX series—ultraportable synthesizers with new features and chassis designs. The two models with 49 and 61 keys connect via USB plug & play to PC, Mac and Apple iPad. Thanks to the FM Essential iOS app, 256 FM sounds are now available, shaped by an FM engine with four operators and 10 voices.

In combination with the integrated AWM2 engine, which provides 1,000 preset sounds, the MX49 and MX61 deliver top performances onstage - and in the studio. On stage the two models impress with the core performance features of the legendary MOTIF series.
In the home studio, keyboardists and songwriters also benefit from the extensive DAW controller functions and the built-in audio interface.

With the new MX models, Yamaha presents a new generation of ultraportable synthesizers that, thanks to compact dimensions and low weight, are not only essential for the touring rig but also fit into an optional gig bag for every rehearsal. The compact MX49 weighs just 3.8 kg, while its big brother MX61 comes in at only 4.8 kg. In their two new colors the MX49 and MX61 stand out everywhere: whether stylish blue or elegant black - each MX delivers music with power and always looks great. As part of a strictly limited edition, MX49 and MX61 are also available with a white chassis design.

Playability: Direct Connection To The FM Essential iOS App

The new MX models offer direct connection to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets—allowing impressive expansion: the FM Essential iOS app adds an FM synthesizer with four operators and 10 voices. Simply connect an iPhone or iPad to the MX (via the optional Apple Lightning-to-USB adapter cable) and the FM sounds for 80s tones or modern EDM productions are ready to use.

On Stage: 1,000 MOTIF Sounds For Every Genre

Despite weighing only a few kilos, the MX synthesizers are a heavyweight on stage, bringing the complete MOTIF engine with over 1,000 sounds and 128-voice polyphony on stage. From realistic instrument sounds like acoustic piano, electric piano, strings and drums to complex synth/electronic sounds with eight elements—the MX delivers the most popular MOTIF voices at the push of a button.
The familiar MOTIF voice functions such as Layer, Zone, Switch and Cycle are also fully supported.

In The Studio: Controller Keyboard For PC/Mac With Built-In Audio Interface

In the home studio the MX models quickly become a comprehensive controller keyboard with a built-in audio interface. The integrated DAW remote keeps important sequencer functions like those in Steinberg Cubase within easy reach. VST plug-ins are also directly accessible. Via USB the MX connects to PC and Mac and is ready to use immediately thanks to class-compliant technology without driver installation.

The Lightweight Synthesizer In Three Fresh Colors

For fresh color accents both MX models are available in black and blue. In a strictly limited variant a white design is also available.
