Gibson J-45 Standard Vintage Sunburst

Gibson J-45 Standard - The Legendary Workhorse Sound!

Since its introduction in 1942 the J-45 has been one of Gibson's defining acoustic guitars. Its reputation as 'The Workhorse' points to an instrument that has earned its place on countless recordings over decades. The J-45 Standard continues that legacy as a classic round-shoulder dreadnought, combining a responsive, balanced voice with a warm foundation, smooth mids and a focused, powerful low end. Its characteristic tone remains closely tied to the musical tradition that has accompanied the model for generations.

Classic Tonewood Combination With Distinct Character

The solid Sitka spruce top works together with solid mahogany back and sides. This proven pairing forms the acoustic basis for the J-45's dynamic response and balanced projection. A multi-ply top binding and single-ply back binding frame the round-shoulder body. The glossy nitrocellulose finish underscores the instrument's traditional Gibson character.

SlimTaper Neck and Traditional Gibson Construction

The mahogany neck features a SlimTaper profile and is joined to the body with a dovetail joint. Gibson uses hot hide glue, maintaining the J-45's traditional construction. The rosewood fingerboard with classic mother-of-pearl dot inlays and a scale length of 24.75" (629 mm) fits the historic concept. Grover Rotomatic tuners and a TUSQ nut provide functional, high-quality appointments at the headstock.

Baggs HiFi DNA for Stage and Studio

For amplified use the J-45 Standard is equipped with the Gibson-exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA pickup system. Two lightweight sensors sit on the inner bridge plate and each works with its own tuned preamp, helping preserve the guitar's natural character when amplified. The system offers feedback resistance comparable to an undersaddle pickup. Volume and tone can be adjusted via discreet controls located in the soundhole.

Thoughtful Details Down to the Bridge

The belly-up rosewood bridge is fitted with a TUSQ saddle and TUSQ bridge pins. A tortoiseshell teardrop pickguard completes the classic appearance. Together with the included hardshell case, the J-45 combines traditional construction with modern, unobtrusively integrated electronics—making it equally suited for acoustic playing, stage and studio.
