The Gibson J-45 was first introduced in 1942 and remains one of Gibson's most important acoustic models to this day. It earned its nickname "The Workhorse" due to its widespread acceptance, straightforward simplicity, and unobtrusive elegance. It is one of the most played acoustic guitars in history and Gibson's best-selling acoustic model of all time. The new Gibson J-45 Special is handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana by Gibson’s experienced luthiers, offering players a USA-made Gibson acoustic guitar at a very attractive price. The J-45 Special features a round-shoulder body made from genuine solid mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top. The top is reinforced with our traditional scalloped X-bracing.

This combination of tonewoods delivers a warm, balanced sound with excellent dynamic range, suitable for any music genre. The "concert depth" body is slightly thinner than the J-45 Standard, giving the J-45 Special a slimmer and tighter bass response that fits perfectly in the mix and also makes it easier to hold. The practical neck is attached to the body with a dovetail joint and, as with all Gibson acoustics, is glued with hot hide glue. The neck features a comfortable and fast-playing SlimTaper profile, and the rosewood fretboard has a 12" radius, adorned with simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays and equipped with 20 standard frets. The traditional belly-up bridge is made of rosewood and fitted with a TUSQ saddle; the nut and bridge pins are also TUSQ. High-quality Grover Rotomatic tuners ensure solid tuning stability. The J-45 Special is finished with satin nitrocellulose lacquer in Satin Vintage Sunburst or Satin Wine Red. It comes equipped with an L.R. Baggs Element Bronze piezo pickup with active electronics and an easily accessible volume control in the soundhole, enabling plug-and-play studio-quality sound anywhere. The J-45 Special also includes a premium soft shell case.
