NUX Trident Guitar Multi-Effect with Amp Modeling!

Following the success of the Cerberus, NUX designed the new Trident NME-5 as a consistent evolution, making it even more versatile. At the same time, the sound was enhanced to be even more high-resolution. The Trident features two powerful DSPs on board - one for effects and one for amp modeling. The TSAC-4K amp modeling uses an algorithm twice as complex as the Cerberus (White-Box Physical Modeling). The Trident’s construction meets high-end standards in every respect, from the one-piece housing made of durable aluminum to the carefully selected components. To deliver a natural, direct, and extremely low-noise sound, the Trident is equipped with premium A/D and D/A converters.

The increased demands on amplifier and effect modeling are implemented in extreme detail in the Trident – for example, by replicating all four inputs on certain amplifiers and simulating their various combinations via patch cables (a typical example is patching the inputs of a Plexi amp). Within the total of ten effect blocks, amp modelings, cabinets, modulation effects, delays, reverbs, and other effects can be freely configured. The combination possibilities are virtually endless, allowing unlimited sound creation and experimentation. If the built-in impulse responses (IRs) are still not enough, the Trident offers 32 memory slots to import additional IRs via the integrated USB port.

The built-in looper offers even more possibilities – ideal for practice or songwriting sessions. It allows loops up to 30 seconds long with unlimited overdubs and the option to run individual loops before or after the effects!

Intuitive Operation Concept

Regarding ergonomics and settings, the NUX Trident is designed for simple and intuitive operation. The total of 10 footswitches allow navigation between presets and functions: switching banks/presets, controlling blocks (Boost / Fx / Mod / Delay / Reverb), and accessing the numerous looper functions as well as the built-in tuner. The Amp/IRs, Mod/Fx, and Delay/Reverb blocks feature physical potentiometers and special toggle switches for selecting effects and adjusting parameters.

The bright LCD display is flanked by two rotary knobs, which allow editing and saving the Trident’s presets and options. A small potentiometer on the back of the housing lets you adjust the pedal’s master volume for downstream amps, mixers, or interfaces.

A Powerful Live and Studio Device

The NUX Trident offers everything needed for a gig or studio: two XLR D.I. outputs (with ground lift) for direct connection to a mixer or active speaker, two jack outputs for connecting to a guitar amplifier, a headphone output for silent playing, a jack socket for control via an optional expression pedal, an effects loop in jack format, and an aux-in in mini-jack format for backing tracks. The Trident can also handle MIDI signals via a mini-jack input and output (adapters to 5-pin DIN connectors are included). The USB-C port serves as an audio interface (for recording, reamping, or live streaming), as well as for firmware updates and managing third-party IRs or editing presets via the free Trident Editor software.
