It lets you make tone adjustments and frequency corrections and compensate for the influence of room acoustics on the sound.

The dbx 231S allows adjustment across the entire audible frequency range. It spans 20 Hz to 20 kHz and is divided into 31 frequency bands. A graphic equalizer gives each band its own slider, so you can boost or cut specific frequencies precisely.

You can quickly and easily shape the sound to suit your preferences. DJs or home-theater enthusiasts tend to prefer a bass-heavy sound. If a very detailed sound is desired, the dbx 231S includes a low-cut filter to attenuate low frequencies. An equalizer can also correct the audio signal: you remove troublesome frequencies until you achieve a pleasantly linear listening experience.

Equalizers are often used to compensate for the influence of room acoustics on the sound. Reflections can boost or attenuate certain frequencies. When a faithful sound image is required, frequency correction is essential.

The dbx 231S's sliders are 22 mm long and offer a selectable adjustment range of ±6 dB or ±12 dB. Each of the 31 bands is 1/3 octave wide. The input gain is adjustable: you can boost quiet signals by 12 dB or attenuate hot signals by 12 dB. Four LEDs display the output level and indicate clipping. Thanks to its wide 108 dB dynamic range, the dbx 231S stays clean and unclipped even at extreme settings.
