Yamaha MG Series: Live and Studio-Ready!
For more than a century Yamaha has built on a legacy of outstanding craftsmanship and innovation that shows in every product we make — from an unmatched catalog of world-class instruments to professional audio gear built to touring standards. The MG series embodies that pursuit of excellent design and includes some of the same technologies developed for use in professional high-end consoles, including studio-grade preamps, powerful digital processing and a robust, reliable construction.
With an intuitive, easy-to-use interface the MG series offers a wide range of compact mixers in models from six to twenty channels, suited to many users and applications. The solid build and flexible design of these mixers let you shape your sound with confidence. They consistently deliver top performance and a level of sonic quality and reliability that’s unrivaled in their class.
Master of Its Class
Yamaha has always aimed to give customers the most uncolored, pure sound possible so the mixing engineer retains all creative options. While coloration can sometimes sound appealing, it steers a mix in a particular direction and can limit a producer’s creativity. The MG series was designed strictly around this Yamaha conviction: sound should be pure and transparent like a mountain stream. As a result, these desks deliver a clarity rarely seen in this class.

The MG series includes numerous models with 6 to 20 channels for a wide variety of tasks. The intuitive interface, robust construction, high sonic quality and flexible design of these reliable consoles are unrivaled in the compact class and ensure nothing stands between you and great mixes.

D-PRE (Discrete Class-A Microphone Preamps)
Preamps form the starting point for great sound. If they aren’t up to the task, no amount of mixing skill can fully compensate. In short: they set the tone for the whole mix and largely determine how good it can ultimately sound. MG-series mixers feature Yamaha’s studio-grade, discretely constructed Class-A preamps. They use an inverted Darlington configuration that, thanks to a dual-transistor cascade, delivers more drive at lower impedance. D-PRE amps provide fat, natural-sounding bass and silky highs with very low distortion.
Thanks to their wide, very balanced transfer range, these preamps handle any conceivable source without overemphasizing any frequency band. That clean sonic foundation saves you time and effort because you won’t need heavy EQ moves or further processing to fix the mix.
Operational Amplifiers for Top-Quality Sound
The preamp determines sonic quality, and the op-amp ICs are among the preamp’s most important components. The MG series uses new, high-quality, custom MG01 op-amps developed in close cooperation with the semiconductor manufacturer. While many other designs optimize circuit layout and efficiency, Yamaha prioritizes sonic quality — a commodity off-the-shelf chips could not deliver for us.
The MG01 op-amps use redesigned circuitry where internal components and wiring are perfectly matched. Only the best materials in their purest form — for example, high-purity silicon wafers and copper wiring — are used so every single part of the chip contributes to outstanding resolution.

Switchable Phantom Power and PAD Switch
With switchable phantom power, MG consoles allow you to connect condenser microphones and benefit from their extended frequency response, higher dynamic range and superior sonic quality compared to dynamic mics. Input channels with PAD switches accept both mic- and line-level sources. The PAD button attenuates high-level inputs — for example mic’d instruments on stage that might otherwise clip and damage the mix.
Yamaha’s Mixer. Your Sound.
Do you have a favorite song where the guitar or vocals sound perfect without EQ or any processing? Probably not. Yamaha mixers are known for linear reproduction and sonic purity, but beyond well-recorded sources you usually need a few more tools to achieve a truly professional mix. Many features that come from Yamaha’s hi-end consoles are now built into the MG series. These desks simply have everything you need to craft a distinctive professional-quality sound.

One-Button Compressors
Compression plays a key role in nearly every studio production or live sound setup. By smartly limiting an audio signal’s dynamics you can add punch to basslines, tighten snares, bring vocals forward or fatten live guitar walls. But it can take countless hours to master even simple hardware compressors and use them fully. Yamaha’s innovative "one-button" compressors let you set the compressor optimally with a single knob.

EQ and High-Pass Filter
There’s nothing better than a reliable equalizer when you need nuanced tonal shaping. The MG series benefits from Yamaha’s unmatched experience building audio gear. All mono channels feature excellent 3-band EQs for precise control. Additional high-pass filters remove unwanted rumble and low-frequency noise, making your mixes noticeably clearer and cleaner.
AUX / Effect Sends / Groups
MG mixers offer AUX sends to expand your PA or studio setup. You can route extra effects, send outputs to external recorders or feed monitor systems. The main sum has its own send controls. The MG06 / 06X and MG10 / 10XU models have only a single stereo bus, while other models include one or two stereo group buses and matching outputs for comfortable channel grouping. Next to each channel fader you’ll find switches for clear group assignment.

Numerous Input and Output Connectors
All models feature high-quality balanced Neutrik XLR connectors on the mono channels. The stereo channels also include XLR jacks. Mono inputs are implemented as combo jacks accepting both MIC and LINE levels. Two of the stereo inputs have an XLR connector plus two phone jacks: the XLR accepts mic-level signals while the phone jacks accept line-level. You can feed either mono or stereo line signals (except on the 10-channel model). The function of the other two stereo channels varies by model: on the 20-channel model the XLR accepts mic-level signals while two RCA connectors accept mono or stereo line-level signals.
On the 16- and 12-channel models two phone jacks accept stereo line-level signals. Each stereo channel also offers 2TR RCA jacks as independent inputs for external sources like CD players. The 10-channel model has an additional stereo channel with a phone jack pair for line signals. On XU models any USB input source can be assigned to one of the stereo channels. In addition to the main stereo outputs (XLR L/R, phone L/R), MG consoles feature multiple outputs for groups (phone), AUX/FX (phone), monitor (phone L/R) and headphones (stereo phone). The master outputs can be used for tasks like monitoring or mastering.
LED Level Meters
The MG series’ LED level meters let you read output levels quickly and precisely.
Built to Last

On gigs, in recording sessions and even fixed installations your console can face many external stresses. It might be humid, mains power may be unstable, and life on the road subjects gear to wear that can lead to costly and time-consuming repairs and shorten a product’s life. The redesigned MG series places special emphasis on durability so these mixers deliver top performance for years.

Metal Chassis
The MG series is built to last and therefore uses a solid, powder-coated metal chassis of outstanding build quality. The design optimally supports internal convection cooling, and the power supply is cleanly separated from the analog circuits inside, which not only prevents annoying noise but also extends component life. Forces like pressure or pull on controls are absorbed by the sturdy chassis rather than being transmitted directly to the PCB or electronic components, which further improves the reliability and longevity of the MG series.
Internal Universal Power Supply
The highly efficient internal universal power supply lets you use the MG series anywhere in the world without worry — even where mains voltage fluctuates widely. The internal PSU also simplifies rack mounting for installations since no bulky adapter or extra peripherals are required. (* MG12 / 16 / 20 / 12XU / 16XU / 20XU)

XLR Connector
The main stereo master outputs use XLR connectors. These professional plugs lock in place so they can’t be accidentally pulled out and they guarantee stable signal transmission even under tough conditions.

Comfortable Stereo Headphones
The KH-238 delivers a full, balanced sound with rich bass and clear highs. It offers substantial volume yet precise stereo imaging. The softly padded, wide headband is length-adjustable with 12 steps per side for an optimal fit. For extra comfort the ear cups rotate on two axes. Thick, soft padding of the circumaural cups also provides good outside-noise isolation. The in-cable volume control is always at hand and makes using the headphones with a PC or MP3 player easy. The 3.5 mm stereo phone plug ensures excellent transfer characteristics and a 6.3 mm stereo adapter is included.
