The C 544 L is a miniature condenser microphone designed to be worn on the head with a nape band. The microphone has a cardioid polar pattern and therefore favors sound from the front (the mouth).
The microphone housing with the condenser transducer is connected to the microphone arm via an elastic mount to suppress cable noise and structure-borne vibration. The microphone arm positions the microphone to the side of the mouth. This largely prevents plosives and protects the microphone from contamination.
The supplied windshield further reduces wind noise and plosives. A special drip ring on the microphone capsule makes it harder for sweat and makeup to enter the capsule area. This prevents the microphone's intake slots from becoming clogged by sweat or makeup, which would cause a muffled sound and reduced sensitivity.
The C 544 L is a condenser microphone and therefore requires a power supply.
