Even the best diamond stylus wears out over time – conical needles after about 500 hours, elliptical after 300 hours, microlinear needles after 1000 hours, and Shibata needles after around 800 hours.

For this reason, the dual-moving-magnet cartridges of the VM95 series are designed so that the styli can be interchanged, allowing the cartridge itself to be used almost indefinitely. When the stylus is worn, you don’t need to buy a new cartridge, just the matching replacement needle – or you can upgrade your system with a different, higher-quality stylus.

All six VM95 cartridge models share the same electromagnetic drive unit (housing). Therefore, all six styli in this series are 100% compatible.

Elliptical, Mounted Needle

An elliptical diamond stylus follows the groove modulations with greater precision compared to a conical needle, enabling a better frequency response with higher phase accuracy and lower distortion.
