I use the speakers together with an active subwoofer as a 2.1 system on the PC.
Even without a subwoofer, the speakers sound really good and reproduce deep bass very well. For small rooms or a rented apartment with neighbors, they are perfectly adequate even without a subwoofer.
The speakers are incredibly level resistant! No matter what song, no matter what volume, no distortion or excessive losses in the low frequency range.
For a larger room or bass lovers, however, I can only recommend a separate subwoofer. Through this configuration, the Edifier can really super take over the highs and mids. The whole thing then also sounds much fuller and through the tweeters clearer / sharper than a usual 5.1 / 2.1 system with small satellites and surpasses this in the maximum level by quite a bit!
