A Pure Copper Cable - Made in Germany
The major advantages of pure OFC (oxygen free copper) cables are their outstanding electrical conductivity and low resistance. Often, speaker cables are marketed as “pure” copper cables even though they only have a very thin copper coating. This mainly applies to cables labeled as “CCA copper” (aluminum core with thin copper coating) or “CCS copper” (steel cable with thin copper coating). These cables have significantly poorer transmission properties than OFC copper cables!
Different Cable Cross-Sections Depending on Requirements
Generally: the longer the speaker cable, the greater the power loss, which is only noticeable in the volume of the signal at the speaker end. Since power loss can be countered by increasing the cable cross-section, it makes sense to use cables with different cross-sections depending on cable length (e.g., larger cross-section for the rear speakers in a surround setup).
At a length of 10m, the power losses are approximately:
- 0.75mm² cable: 5.25%
- 1.5mm² cable: 3.13%
- 2.5mm² cable: 1.63%
- 4mm² cable: 1.00%
What Is the Difference Between Diameter and Cross-Section?
The diameter in mm is a length measurement, while the cross-section in mm² is an area measurement. Since PureLink speaker cables consist of individual copper strands, the cross-section is given as an area, which cannot be equated with the diameter and is therefore always smaller.

This cable has a CE marking and a corresponding performance declaration according to EU Construction Products Regulation No. 305/2011. According to standard EN 50575:2014 + A1:2016, the cable has fire behavior class Eca.
