The Return of a Legend - the Epiphone 1957 SJ-200 Reissue!
The Gibson SJ-200 was introduced in 1937 and quickly earned the nickname "King of the Flat-Tops" thanks to its size, premium tone, remarkable projection and undeniable stage presence. While early models were built in rosewood, the back and sides were changed to maple in 1947. The SJ-200 has been played by matinee cowboys, folk troubadours, country singers and rock stars alike, and vintage SJ-200 examples are highly sought after by collectors. Now Epiphone, in collaboration with Gibson Custom, proudly presents the 1957 SJ-200 Reissue — a Gibson Custom–inspired reissue of the majestic 1957 Super Jumbo model that makes this instrument accessible to today’s players.
The Epiphone 1957 SJ-200 Reissue is packed with vintage-inspired details and features an all-solid construction, including a thermally aged solid Sitka spruce top reinforced with arched X-bracing, solid figured maple back and sides, multi-ply top and back bindings, a two-piece flamed maple neck with a walnut stringer, a comfortable C-profile and a bound Indian rosewood fretboard with graduated mother-of-pearl crown inlays and 20 standard frets. The neck is set into the body with a glued dovetail joint.
The SJ-200-style pickguard features vintage-style graphics, and the open SJ-200 moustache bridge in rosewood with two bars has mother-of-pearl bars. The nut, compensated saddle and bridge pins are all made of bone. The bound Gibson-style headstock with the "open book" is adorned with the Epiphone logo and a mother-of-pearl Gibson crown. The back of the headstock on the Antique Natural model is fitted with a stinger (the Vintage Sunburst version does not have a stinger), and the 1957 SJ-200 Reissue also has an "Inspired by Gibson Custom Double Diamond" logo engraved on the back of the headstock.
To better meet the needs of modern players, it comes equipped with an under-saddle L.R. Baggs Element Bronze VTC piezo pickup and an active preamp with soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls, so it’s ready for stage and studio straight out of the included Red Line–inspired hardshell case with "Inspired by Gibson Custom" graphics.
