Even though George Harrison and Eric Clapton played a '64 SG Standard, that model year stood out for SGs in general. The chunky side-pull vibrato was replaced by the reliable Maestro Vibrola. Neck profiles became fuller and resembled the 1959 Les Paul profiles. Balance, playability and the SG's looks all seemed perfected. For that reason, the Gibson Custom Shop is proud to present this reissue of the 1964 SG Standard.
Paired with the Maestro Vibrola and the beefy neck profile, it features all the meticulously reproduced vintage specifications you could ask for — original construction techniques, chemically replicated plastics, recreated electronics and more. The result is arguably the best-looking, best-feeling and best-sounding SG reissue of all time. The instrument was treated with Ultra Light Aging by the experienced craftsmen at the Murphy Lab. The Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged finish, combined with lightly aged hardware, simulates decades of subtle play wear and gives the guitar the unique character, presence and feel of an original from Gibson's Golden Era.
