A Gibson Custom-Inspired Reissue of One of the Most Popular Vintage SG Models!
The 1964 SG Standard with Maestro Vibrola is a reissue of one of the most beloved SG models of all time – the 1964 SG Standard. This model was played by renowned musicians like George Harrison and Eric Clapton and was a true highlight of the SG series. Up to 1964, the less intuitive sideways vibrato was replaced by the reliable Maestro Vibrola, while the neck profile was slightly enlarged compared to the ultra-thin neck profiles of some earlier SG models, allowing the SG’s balance, playability, and looks to fully shine. 1964 was also the first full year the SG dropped the previously used Les Paul name.
Now Epiphone proudly presents the 1964 SG Standard Reissue with Maestro Vibrola, a stunning revival of this legendary model. The Epiphone 1964 SG Standard with Maestro Vibrola was crafted in collaboration with Gibson Custom and is the most authentic reissue of the 1964 SG Standard Epiphone has ever released.
All the classic features that made the 1964 SG Standard model famous and loved are here, including a one-piece mahogany neck with a long tenon for enhanced stability and sustain, a comfortable, fast-playing SlimTaper profile, and a bound rosewood fretboard. It also features trapezoid mother-of-pearl inlays, an aged Epiphone mother-of-pearl logo on the headstock, and an aged Gibson crown mother-of-pearl inlay on the Gibson “Open Book” style headstock. The two-piece mahogany body with center seam has the comfortable and distinctive contours that define the vintage SG style and provide excellent playing comfort.
The electronics are equally impressive, with two USA Gibson Custombucker humbucker pickups with Alnico 3 magnets, hand-wired to CTS potentiometers, Black Beauty paper-in-oil capacitors, and a Switchcraft pickup selector switch and output jack. The Vintage Gloss finish is beautifully complemented by nickel hardware, including Epiphone Vintage Deluxe “Double Ring” tuners. A black hard shell case with “Inspired by Gibson Custom” graphics, gold hardware, and a golden-yellow interior is also included.
