The Gibson Les Paul Special debuted in 1955 as a single-cutaway model and, apart from the Sunburst standards built from 1958 to 1960, was the last of the original Les Paul models from the ’50s. As an upgraded version of the Les Paul Junior with more tonal versatility, it featured two P-90 pickups instead of the Junior’s single P-90 and looked a bit fancier with a bound fretboard and a mother-of-pearl logo on the headstock. In 1958, the body shape was revised from a single cutaway to a double cutaway, improving access to the fretboard. By 1960, the Special really hit its stride with a thinner SlimTaper neck profile and a lower neck pickup position, making it tougher and more playable than ever.

Now Epiphone proudly presents, in collaboration with Gibson Custom, the 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cut Reissue, a Gibson Custom–inspired reissue of the coveted 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cut.

Like the original, it features a solid mahogany body with double cutaways that provide excellent access to the entire fretboard. The one-piece mahogany neck has a fast-playing 60s SlimTaper profile and is topped with a rosewood fretboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The fretboard has a 12-inch radius, allowing effortless chord playing in the lower positions and smooth bending solos higher up the neck. The Gibson-style “Open Book” headstock is fitted with Epiphone Deluxe tuners with three-on-a-plate design and white buttons, while a Graph Tech nut ensures stable tuning. A historic-style wraparound aluminum bridge with intonation screws firmly anchors the strings at the other end and contributes to the excellent sustain the Les Paul Special is known for.

Two Gibson Custom USA-made P-90 Soapbar pickups, capable of sounding sweet and clean or downright gritty and dirty, are hand-wired and connected through individual volume and tone controls with premium CTS potentiometers and Bumblebee paper-in-oil capacitors for authentic vintage tones that will thrill even the most discerning players. The 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cut Reissue comes in a vintage-style case with a brown exterior and pink plush lining, decorated on the outside with “Inspired by Gibson Custom” graphics. All this delivers a vintage playing experience and a unique ownership feeling at an affordable price that’s truly “Special” in every way.
