Schlagwerk’s handpans meet this standard more than ever. Experience a range of hand-tuned, exquisite instruments that offer more than just perfect tuning. In collaboration with the skilled artisans at Harmonic Art and Schlagwerk, a new generation of handpans has been developed featuring special manufacturing processes, a body made from multiple materials, and a maintenance-free surface.
Material
Welcome to the era of Vibra Steel! What makes Schlagwerk’s material special? Over the past 22 years, carbon and stainless steel have been all the rage. Schlagwerk’s Vibra Steel alloy was chosen for its natural rust protection and a clearer, ceramic-like tone. It produces greater sound volume and is significantly harder than conventional stainless steel. The result is an instrument with excellent playability that’s also robust with lasting tonal quality.
Sound
The heat treatment used to harden the steel is crucial for achieving extraordinary tuning stability, allowing the tone fields to hold pitch perfectly and reducing the need for retuning over years. With its clear tonality and cathedral-like effect, the Schlagwerk handpan is ideal for various applications such as solo performance, sound healing, meditation, yoga, to name just a few.
Production
The unique way Schlagwerk’s single shells are shaped ensures controlled thickness distribution. This innovative process also delivers unmatched sustain and expands the overtone spectrum of the sound. Every Schlagwerk handpan is a true masterpiece of craftsmanship without equal.
Surface Protection
The entire surface of Schlagwerk handpans is maintenance-free and treated with a special coating for corrosion protection. It is also scratch-resistant, sweat-proof, and even water-repellent. The characteristic black, durable surface clearly distinguishes these instruments from others that require oil as corrosion protection or care for long-lasting durability.
