The TREvolution Begins!
Based on some of the most famous and influential drum machines of all time, the TR-8S combines Roland’s rich heritage with modern production techniques and professional sound design. The result? A groundbreaking, unique performance instrument. Create your custom dream kit from the most legendary drum sounds ever, plus a premium collection of samples from our vast library—or import your own samples. Tap, tweak, and optimize sounds via hands-on controllers and production tools to inject dynamics and groove into your patterns. And why limit this percussive power to the studio?
Design Kits from Authentic TR Drums, Sample Sounds & Effects
The TR-8S offers the most extensive and authentic collection of TR drum machines on the market. Thanks to the powerful new processor, our pioneering ACB models sound more detailed than ever, letting you experience the punch, smack, and crackle of Roland’s classic sounds in every nuance. Now you can combine all this with presets and custom samples to create unique hybrid and layered kits. Additionally, the TR-8S’s specialized effects expand the TR formula with professional sound design options.
Transistor Rhythms
Based on detailed circuit models of the legendary TR drum machines 808, 606, 909, 707, 727, and various modified versions, the TR-8S provides every single sound from the TR history. We’re not talking about imitative sample packs or simple recordings of a TR drum sound. Each machine is a precise modeling down to the circuit level that behaves and sounds like the original hardware. With the TR-8S, these legendary sounds are ready to play, to be used in your productions and performances.

ACB Meets Samples
Modern rhythm tracks rely on a variety of sounds and production techniques. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to sound truly unique. While authentic TR sounds are essential for producing drum tracks, mixing and layering sounds opens up a whole universe of modern styles and gives you all the tools to craft your individual, unmistakable sound. Use our extensive collection of preset samples or import your own mono and stereo sounds via the built-in SD card slot. As with the TR sounds, you can also edit samples in detail using the intuitive hands-on controllers. This way, you can adjust decay and tuning of samples, set start points, speed, or playback direction. Create pure sample kits or blend them with TR sounds to produce groundbreaking drum tracks for any genre that stand out from the crowd.
Dramatic Effects
With the right effects, you can add depth and space to your drum parts. From delay on the rim shot to overdrive on the kick drum, filters on the toms and cymbals, to precise reverb on individual instruments—the TR-8S offers special percussion effects that just sound great. Besides the master FX knob, each channel has a customizable CTRL knob giving you quick access to a wide range of sound-shaping options at any time.
Whether you want to adjust the kick’s attack, the snare’s snap, phaser intensity, or distortion level—you can assign any desired effect parameter to the CTRL or master FX knob and save it individually for each kit. Moreover, both instrument and master effects with all settings are saved per kit, so you can use your productions live anytime.

Create Lively Patterns with Variations, Fills & Movement
With the "TR-REC" step sequencer, which has been the engine of electronic music productions for decades, creating patterns feels completely natural and intuitive. For the TR-8S, we improved this engine further and adapted it to modern workflows.

Fast and Fluid Is Fun
For programming patterns, you can use either the 16 TR-REC buttons or the velocity-sensitive performance pads to perform live or record in the sequencer. You can seamlessly switch between playing and editing, so you stay in the flow while working on your drum parts. Work with velocity, accents, flams, and precise sub-steps for modern rolls and ratches to create complex grooves and detailed fills. Experiment with unusual polyrhythms and complex time signatures by changing the length or "last step" of each drum part.
Vary Your Themes and Sounds
One of the challenges for performers is to keep live sets fresh and exciting at all times. The TR-8S offers storage for up to 128 patterns, each with eight variations and three different types of fills. You can also trigger patterns or variations individually or chain them together to create lively sequences. Furthermore, you can quickly copy patterns during live performances and adjust running patterns without losing the beat. Tempo, kit, knob positions, and effect settings are saved per pattern as needed. This way, you can recall your patterns anytime and have plenty of storage and flexibility to play a full set without repeating yourself.

Using Fills
Thoughtfully placed fills can enrich a track or live set with unique moments. Each pattern on the TR-8S can contain up to two fills, which can be individually customized or programmed from scratch. Additionally, an adjustable "scatter" fill lets you split a bar into short sections to integrate controlled chaos moments into your tracks and sets. Sometimes your hands are full, and you can’t trigger every fill manually. That’s where the auto-fill function comes in. By automatically placing fills every 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32 bars, you free your hands for other actions without missing out on interesting dynamic developments in your performance.
In Motion
Professionally sounding drum tracks usually rely on detailed production techniques. With the TR-8S, you can not only tweak these details but also work efficiently and have fun. By setting parameters for individual steps or programming pattern progressions, you can create a wide range of effects—from subtle dynamic adjustments to extreme tonal transitions. Automate the kick drum’s tuning, the snare’s pitch, panning, effects... whatever you envision. Create melodies and basslines or swap your kit sounds for individual song sections. Motion recording happens immediately and effortlessly, while motion playback can be activated or deactivated anytime.

At Home in the Studio, In Your Element on Stage
Over the past four years, we’ve received a lot of feedback from enthusiastic TR-8 fans worldwide. This gave us a clear idea of how to improve the successor for both studio productions and live performances. As a result, we integrated numerous features and more at users’ requests into the TR-8S while preserving the immediate access and fun factor of the original TR-8.

Eight Analog Outputs
Like some of its famous siblings, the TR-8S features eight separate analog outputs, allowing you to process individual drum sounds with external effects or send them to separate channels on your mixer or DAW. By assigning which instrument or group goes to which outputs, you maintain full control over your sound at all times. Whatever you do—thanks to the integrated 24-bit/96 kHz D/A converters, the TR-8S’s sound remains big, punchy, and spacious.
Trigger Output and External Input
The TR-8S has a dedicated trigger output and stereo audio inputs for external signal sources. Additionally, you can use the assignable outputs as extra trigger outputs. This way, you can control external instruments and mix them with the TR-8S’s internal sounds, greatly expanding your creative possibilities live and in the studio. Each pattern offers a fixed trigger track, letting you realize all kinds of variations without using an additional instrument. Rim shots and triggered analog bass patterns? No problem.

Audio and MIDI Interface
Besides being the most powerful drum machine ever, the TR-8S also functions as a complete multichannel audio and MIDI interface. Once you connect your TR-8S to a computer or AIRA Link host, you can transfer MIDI data and high-resolution audio over a single USB cable. This lets you record each drum instrument on a separate channel and edit it individually, automate parameter changes via CC messages in your DAW, or sync your TR-8S with your computer or the Roland MX-1 Mix Performer for live sets and jam sessions.
Improved Design with Modern Appeal
When you look at the TR-8S, you’ll notice numerous aesthetic and ergonomic improvements. The result is a timeless design that fits into any creative environment. We revised the shape, color scheme, and overall feel to make the TR-8S more distinctive, elegant, and inviting. Through the RGB color faders and TR-REC buttons, you can adjust the brightness and color of each element to your needs. Besides the great look, this provides crucial visual feedback on play and mute status, instrument grouping, and more. And then there’s the lava lamp mode...

Complete Recall
Life as a musician can be unpredictable and full of pitfalls both on tour and in the studio. But don’t worry. Sit back and relax knowing that every kit, every pattern, and every conceivable setting can be saved on an SD card. Simply insert it into a new or freshly reset TR-8S, and you’re ready to play again.

Comfortable Stereo Headphones
The KDJ-1000 delivers a full, balanced sound with rich bass reproduction and clear highs. It offers plenty of volume while maintaining clean and precise stereo imaging. Thanks to its low impedance, the KDJ-1000 can handle extreme volume levels even at low-signal inputs. Of course, the softly padded, wide headband is length-adjustable. The entire headphone folds up for space-saving storage. For working at the mixer, the comfortable ear cups can also rotate 180° for classic "single ear monitoring." The thick, soft padding of the circumaural cups additionally provides good external noise isolation.
