Moog DFAM - Drummer From Another Mother!
The DFAM is a highly interactive, semi-modular analog percussion synthesizer and a livelier departure from the traditional drum machine. Handmade in Asheville, NC by the Moog Factory team, the DFAM is the first addition to the Mother-32 synthesizer family and offers an expressive, playful approach to crafting percussive patterns. It requires no patching and absolutely no experience, allowing people of all ages to quickly dive into synthesizing new and unique rhythmic compositions.
The expressive sound of the DFAM is triggered via an easy-to-use analog sequencer and starts with a white noise generator plus two analog oscillators covering a wide frequency range. Hard sync of the oscillators and FM cross-modulation enable effortless transitions between rhythmic pulses, tonal basses, and resonant bells in no time. The DFAM’s distinctive coloration is then shaped by a versatile Moog ladder filter with two selectable modes: the low-pass mode adds punch and dimension, while the high-pass mode delivers expressive strikes, spikes, and sharper accents.
The DFAM behaves like a living organism, responding differently to various users. This is thanks to the 3 dedicated analog envelopes that dynamically interact with the sequencer, making tribal toms breathe, industrial impacts evolve, and chaotic cacophony be created or tamed by turning a knob.
Each DFAM comes with Moog patch cables that unlock access to the 24-pin modular patchbay. You can use this to create new sounds or bizarre behaviors, sync an unlimited number of DFAM and Mother-32 units, or fully integrate your analog instrument into a modular Eurorack setup.
