Slick Guitars combines the ideas of rock guitarist Earl Slick with a deliberately stripped-down guitar concept. Instead of high-gloss finishes and elaborate appointments, the focus is on vintage and roadworn looks, functional construction and distinctive details such as brass hardware and proprietary pickups. At Kirstein, you can find Slick electric guitars from series such as SL50, SL52, SL54, SL56, SL57 and SL60. The different designs range from straightforward TL-style instruments and single- and double-cut concepts to the semi-hollow construction of the SL56 – an interesting choice for guitarists looking for an uncomplicated instrument with distinctive rock n roll character.

Slick Guitars at Kirstein
Slick Guitars bears the signature of Earl Slick, known among other things for his long-standing collaboration with David Bowie. The instruments follow a deliberately no-frills approach: construction remains straightforward, decorative elements take a back seat and the worn-in vintage look is part of the concept. Rather than making a classic guitar appear as luxurious as possible, Slick focuses on a functional, direct character. At Kirstein, you can discover various models from the brand within the electric guitar range.
Which Slick Guitars series are available?
The individual series differ primarily in body shape and pickup configuration. The SL50 follows the classic TL concept and combines a swamp ash body with two Slick Fullerton single-coil pickups. If you like this straightforward design, you can also explore other instruments with a similar basic shape among TL guitars.
The SL52, by contrast, uses a single-cut construction with two Hand Aged Old School Alnico V humbuckers. Within the Slick range, this gives it a different pickup configuration from the single-coil-oriented SL50. The SL54 adds another distinct pickup concept to the model family. When choosing between them, it therefore makes sense to compare not only the looks but especially the respective pickup configuration and body design.
SL56 and SL60: two particularly distinctive concepts
The SL56 occupies a special position in the range. It is designed as an offset semi-hollow guitar with two F-holes. Versions offered by Kirstein feature a Slick SL119 single coil and a P-90. Its partially hollow construction clearly distinguishes it from the brands solidbody models. Guitarists specifically looking for this type of construction can explore further hollowbody electric guitars.
The SL60 takes an even more stripped-down double-cut approach. Current versions centre on two Hand Aged Slick Junior Alnico V P-90 pickups and electronics reduced to a single volume control. A wraparound bridge machined from a block of brass completes the concept. This makes the SL60 particularly suitable for players who prefer straightforward controls and want to shape their core sound without elaborate switching. Further instruments of this body type can be found among double-cut guitars.
Roadworn looks, swamp ash and brass hardware
A recurring feature of many Slick models is the swamp ash body. This is complemented by maple necks, jatoba fingerboards and finishes with a deliberately aged or satin appearance. The use of brass for various hardware components is particularly distinctive. On models such as the SL60, for example, the wraparound bridge is machined from a block of brass. These details are as much a part of the brands visual and construction identity as the Hand Aged pickups used across different series.
Which Slick guitar is right for you?
The desired basic construction is a useful starting point when choosing. The SL50 is aimed at fans of the straightforward TL style and a single-coil configuration. Models such as the SL52 instead offer a single-cut shape with humbuckers. The SL56 combines an offset design and semi-hollow construction with a mixed pickup configuration, while the SL60 uses a double-cut shape, two P-90 pickups and particularly simple controls. The SL57 expands the choice with a version featuring three Slick “65” Alnico single coils. This makes it easy to narrow down the model family according to body shape, pickup type and preferred control concept.
