MOECK – recorders Made in Germany
MOECK is one of Germany’s long-established manufacturers of recorders and produces its instruments in Celle. The range extends from soprano recorders for the first years of lessons to alto, tenor, bass and great bass instruments for ensemble, consort and professional applications. The brand offers both models with German fingering for selected beginner concepts and instruments with Baroque fingering for advanced playing and more demanding repertoire. Different woods and construction approaches are used depending on the series.
School Recorder and Flauto 1 Plus for beginners
For music schools, group lessons and first pieces, MOECK offers several beginner-friendly models. The School Recorder is one of the manufacturer’s classic ranges and is available with German or Baroque fingering. Flauto 1 Plus combines a durable plastic headjoint with a maple lower joint. This gives it the easy-care advantages of a robust headjoint together with the character of a wooden body. For children and regular lessons in particular, this material combination can be practical when the instrument is frequently transported and played.
Flauto Rondo – versatile for lessons and ensemble
The Flauto Rondo series is aimed at players who want to move beyond a basic beginner instrument and are looking for a versatile recorder for lessons and ensemble playing. The range includes several registers from sopranino to great bass and can therefore cover different voices within recorder ensembles. This makes Rondo interesting for music schools, ensembles and players who want to build several parts around a coordinated model family.
Rottenburgh for advanced and demanding playing
The Rottenburgh series is one of MOECK’s established higher-level ranges. It is based on Baroque instrument concepts and is intended for players looking for more differentiated response and broader tonal possibilities. Different registers and wood types are available within the series. This allows the instrument to be matched more closely to personal sound preferences, ensemble requirements and solo repertoire than a typical student model.
Steenbergen and Kynseker – historical models reinterpreted
With Steenbergen and Kynseker, MOECK offers instruments whose construction is more closely related to historical recorder models. These instruments are particularly interesting for players who work intensively with early music and historically informed performance practice. Their construction, fingering and tonal direction differ from modern student and ensemble instruments. When choosing such a recorder, the desired register, repertoire, ensemble context and personal playing experience should therefore all be considered.
Renaissance Consort recorders for historical ensembles
The Renaissance Consort series is specifically designed for playing together in historical instrumentations. A consort consists of recorders in different registers whose tonal character and construction are coordinated with one another. This produces a different overall ensemble sound from a group made up of modern individual instruments from unrelated series. For Renaissance music, early music and specialised ensembles, MOECK therefore offers a distinct family of instruments.
Which MOECK recorder suits you?
For beginners, register and fingering system are the first important choices. The C soprano recorder is particularly common in lessons, while alto, tenor and bass recorders later add further voices within an ensemble. Depending on the teaching concept, beginners can choose between German and Baroque fingering; Baroque fingering becomes especially relevant for advanced repertoire. As playing experience increases, wood type, response, tone colour and stylistic direction also become more important. Ensemble players should additionally consider how well the instrument blends with the other voices.
