Chapman Guitars is a British guitar brand founded in 2009 by guitarist Rob Chapman. From the very beginning, feedback from the guitar community played an important role in the development of its instruments. The current Kirstein range focuses on modern electric guitars for stage, studio and demanding players: the Scout Legacy delivers modern HH tones, the Scout Traditional offers versatile HSS sounds, and the Law Maker Legacy provides a distinctive alternative with coil split. The range is complemented by the Peter Honoré DPT and Chris Robertson SAR63 signature models.

Chapman Guitars at Kirstein

Chapman Guitars combines modern electric guitar concepts with a clear focus on playability and practical features. The brand was founded in 2009 around Rob Chapman and involved feedback from the guitar community in instrument development from an early stage. The current Kirstein range focuses mainly on Scout Legacy, Scout Traditional and Law Maker Legacy, together with signature models by Peter Honoré and Chris Robertson. Earlier names such as ML1 and ML3 remain relevant to the history and development of the brand, while older Standard and Pro Series models are no longer a central part of the current selection at Kirstein.

Scout Legacy and Scout Traditional – two modern double-cut concepts

The Chapman Scout Legacy continues the familiar ML1 concept in the current model generation. It combines an alder body with a flamed maple veneer, rosewood neck and rosewood fretboard. Two Chapman humbuckers developed with Wilkinson, a 5-way switch and a string-through hardtail bridge make it well suited to versatile rock tones, precise rhythm work and lead playing. 22 jumbo stainless steel frets, a 14-inch fretboard radius and locking tuners underline its modern approach.

The Chapman Scout Traditional, by contrast, uses an HSS configuration with a Chapman Redline Special humbucker and two Straight-Six single coils. A push-pull coil split further expands the available sounds. Its roasted maple neck with rosewood fretboard, 22 jumbo stainless steel frets and Wilkinson WVS130 tremolo make it an interesting choice for players who want clear single-coil tones, more powerful humbucker sounds and tremolo effects in one guitar.

Law Maker Legacy – the current ML3 concept

The current Chapman Law Maker Legacy is positioned by the manufacturer within the tradition of the ML3. Like the Scout Legacy, it combines alder, flamed maple and a rosewood neck and fretboard, but differs through its distinctive body shape and electronics. The Chapman Redline Special at the bridge and Chapman GT at the neck are controlled via a 3-way switch, while the tone control also provides a coil split. Carbon neck reinforcement, a spoke-wheel truss rod, locking tuners and a magnetic electronics cavity cover are designed for straightforward adjustment and regular use.

Chapman signature guitars by Peter Honoré and Chris Robertson

With the Peter Honoré Signature DPT, Chapman shows a more traditionally voiced side. The signature model associated with the name “Danish Pete” features two specially voiced Wilkinson R-Series single coils, a maple neck with rosewood fretboard and a classic 9.5-inch radius. Its 22 narrow-tall nickel frets and vintage-oriented hardware deliberately set the DPT apart from the more modern Scout and Law Maker models.

The Chapman SAR63 Chris Robertson Signature is aimed at guitarists who want to combine semi-hollow character with a modern HH configuration. The signature model of the Black Stone Cherry guitarist features an alder body, a carved maple top with F-hole and two SAR63 Wilkinson R-Series humbuckers. Coil split, 22 jumbo stainless steel frets and locking tuners add contemporary functionality for rock, blues and dynamic lead playing.

Which Chapman guitar suits your playing style?

For a modern HH guitar with a fixed bridge and a broad tonal range, the Scout Legacy is a natural starting point. Players who also want classic single-coil tones and a tremolo may prefer the Scout Traditional. The Law Maker Legacy combines modern HH sounds with coil split and a distinctive body shape. The DPT is aimed more towards players looking for a traditional single-coil approach, while the semi-hollow SAR63 offers an interesting option for rock and blues guitarists.
