Boomwhackers combine pitch, rhythm, colour and movement in an accessible instrument concept. The hollow plastic tubes have different lengths and are therefore tuned to different pitches. They can be played by striking them against your hand, the floor, a table or against each other. As the notes can also be distinguished by colour, even people without extensive knowledge of musical notation can quickly take part in making music together.

The sound tubes are particularly popular in early music education and music lessons. They are suitable for exercises involving pitch, melodies and rhythm as well as group arrangements. Each person can take responsibility for one or more notes. In this way, individual parts that are easy to perform combine to create a shared musical result. Which Boomwhackers sets are available?

A classic starting point is the BW-DG Diatonic Set with eight tubes covering the notes of a C major scale from C to C". If you also need the semitones, the diatonic set can be expanded with the BW-CG Chromatics Set. Its five tubes provide the chromatic notes in between, significantly expanding the possibilities for melodies and arrangements.

More extensive configurations are also available for larger groups and lessons. The Basic School Set 04 at Kirstein, for example, contains 28 sound tubes, chromatic notes, Octavator Caps and a bag for storage and transport. Sets like these are particularly practical when several people are playing at the same time and certain notes need to be assigned to more than one person.

From a basic set to an extended tonal range

Octavator Tube Caps offer another useful way to expand the system. The caps are placed on the tubes and lower their pitch by one octave. This allows existing Boomwhackers to be used more flexibly without immediately requiring another complete set of tubes for every lower register.
