Custom-core processors ensure smooth, precise operation with abundant headroom, extensive polyphony and full patch remain for seamless changes. Use dozens of simultaneous effects, including the new studio reverbs and the revised Master FX to shape the overall sound. The characterful analog filter adds extra warmth and grip to your tones.
New Sound Dimensions
FANTOM EX offers a gigantic library of pioneering Roland sounds. Whether producing, composing or performing live—the selection includes more than 7,000 internal sounds plus a range of powerful synthesis tools.
Comprehensive Control
On the clear, ergonomic front panel of buttons, knobs and sliders you can shape your compositions and craft sounds in no time.
At the center is the impressive color touchscreen that adapts dynamically to each task. You can also import your own images into the FANTOM EX to use as the home screen background and screensaver.
ACB Technology
Roland's Analog Circuit Behavior (ACB) technology reproduces analog circuits and their interactions at component level to deliver an authentic analog sound experience in the digital domain.
FANTOM EX includes three ACB instruments with the latest ACB innovations, including the Circuit Mod and Condition functions that let you set vintage character at different intensities.
The Power Of ZEN-Core
The flexible and expandable ZEN-Core synthesis system draws on decades of Roland development experience and offers a broad selection of electronic, acoustic and hybrid sounds. Develop nuanced, expressive tones with up to four partials—each with its own oscillator, filter, amp, dual LFO and effects. Combine up to 16 sounds in a scene to build complex splits, layers and sequenced parts.
JUPITER-8 ACB Expansion
Released in 1981, the JUPITER-8 is one of the most famous and sought-after polyphonic synthesizers ever. With the JUPITER-8 ACB expansion, the FANTOM EX contains a comprehensive reproduction of this vintage icon down to the circuit level.
SH-101 ACB Expansion
The SH-101 ACB expansion for the FANTOM EX is a faithful recreation of the famous Roland SH-101 mono-synth from 1982, which continues to influence electronic music around the world.
JX-3P ACB Expansion
In 1983 the JX-3P ushered in a new era: straightforward looks, easy preset recall and stable tuning via digitally controlled analog oscillators. With the JX-3P ACB expansion you can integrate this underground classic into your FANTOM EX workflow. The sound is indistinguishable from the original.
Model Expansions
From sought-after classics to the pioneers of tomorrow—Model Expansions provide unprecedented access to the historical, continuously evolving world of Roland synthesizers. The FANTOM EX includes six preinstalled Model Expansions based on the versatile ZEN-Core system.
n/zyme Model Expansion
n/zyme is a modern instrument based on a completely new synthesizer engine developed specifically for the FANTOM platform. Combining wavetable oscillator layers, phase- and form-modulation, resonant filters and two incredibly powerful step LFOs, n/zyme is a highly interactive musical tool that encourages endless creative exploration.
Vintage Model Expansions
The Vintage Model Expansions for JD-800, JUNO-106, JUPITER-8, JX-8P and SH-101 capture the essence of these legendary Roland instruments, enhanced with greater polyphony and modern features for today's musicians and producers.
World-Class Pianos
Many keyboardists learned on an acoustic piano. The FANTOM EX builds on V-Piano and SuperNATURAL technologies. The result is expressive pianos that not only sound authentic but also feel authentic to play. The V-Piano interface has been redesigned for smoother workflow. Factory-installed is the German Concert V-Piano Expansion 01 from the RD-2000. In addition to the key SuperNATURAL acoustic and electric pianos, the FANTOM EX includes the newly developed SuperNATURAL Acoustic Piano 3 Expansion.
Essential Organs
Roland's Virtual ToneWheel Engine enables precise reproduction of the tone generation of vintage organs and includes multiple tone-wheel types, adjustable percussion, key-click, background noises and more. A spacious rotary effect with variable speed, brake control and optional tube overdrive is also available. For an authentic organ experience, the touchscreen, sliders, knobs and key response adjust automatically to provide comfortable tone control and responsive playability.
Endless Inspiration
Roland Cloud offers a constantly growing selection of ZEN-Core sound packs and wave expansions. The variety of styles is expanded each month with new titles—keeping your music sounding fresh and original.
The Heart Of Your Studio
With seamless computer integration, powerful composition tools and versatile connectivity, the FANTOM EX serves as the centerpiece of your production environment.
Deep DAW Integration
The FANTOM EX integrates easily into any computer-based production setup. Beyond the customizable touchscreen control, there are specific modes for popular software platforms including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, MainStage, Cubase and Studio One.
With the built-in 16x3 audio/MIDI USB interface you can mix and layer software synths with hardware sounds, send sequencer parts to computer tracks, route DAW sources through FANTOM EX effects and much more.
Extensive Connectivity
The rear panel of the FANTOM EX lets you connect almost anything. Plug microphones and instruments into the XLR combo inputs and route sounds to external destinations via eight individually assignable 1/4" outputs. Work with MIDI gear and control software synths directly from the touchscreen. The two CV/Gate outputs also let you control modular and analog synths.
Sampling Workstation
With the FANTOM EX you can sample both internal and external sources—or both at once. Sample directly to the integrated pads for quick triggering, or to the keyboard for immediate pitched sounds.
Or create detailed multisamples with up to 352 samples per sound. You can even use samples as the basis for a ZEN-Core sound and take your custom sound design to the next level.
Powerhouse For Your Compositions
FANTOM EX is a versatile musical composition platform that delivers fast results. Create arrangements quickly and easily with the clip-based workflow.
Trigger sounds, clips and patterns via the 16 RGB pads. Compose with the step sequencer in classic TR-REC style or record sounds in real time. For fine-tuning your tracks, use the large touchscreen and the intuitive piano roll editor.
A Universe Of Roland Effects
Professional sound design and music production demand high-quality effects. The FANTOM EX offers a wide range of effects from Roland's vast library to add color, space and depth to your parts. The newly developed algorithms of the Shimmer Reverb and Modulation Reverb deliver a sonic quality that rivals top standalone processors. The Master FX processor works with preset templates for fast results and provides an updated graphical user interface for the Mastering Comp and Mastering EQ sections.
High-Quality Keyboard
Each FANTOM EX model features a high-quality keyboard with aftertouch. The FANTOM 6 EX (61 keys) and the FANTOM 7 EX (76 keys) use semi-weighted synthesizer keys. These inspiring keyboards benefit from decades of Roland development and deliver unmatched expressive range.
Unlimited Expressive Possibilities
The hardware and interface of the FANTOM EX were developed in collaboration with renowned synthesizer designer Axel Hartmann. The goal was to support your creative process and combine smooth workflow with outstanding playability.
Comprehensive Creative Control
With numerous knobs and sliders you always have everything under control. Thanks to high-resolution data processing, even very fine adjustments and silky-smooth parameter moves are no problem. The synthesizer section includes an oscillator, filter and envelope controller. You'll also find many buttons and pads for triggering commands and sequences. You can even connect up to three USB-MIDI controllers to expand your workflow.
Robust And Reliable
The FANTOM EX is built to the highest construction standards—just like Roland's top instruments. From the durable metal chassis to premium components and rugged connectors, this instrument stands up to the rigors of concert life and extended touring.
