Replaceable Drum Head for Your Iconic Cajón!
Inspired by the "Mshondo" — a tall, slender drum played by the Giriama tribe that produces a beautiful, rounded tone. This interpretation of that tribal drum is made from untreated goat skin to deliver a deeper frequency response.
It therefore contrasts beautifully with the other íons in the range and offers the opportunity to create a very satisfying counterpoint both to the Cajón and to the other íons when playing. In terms of looks and tone, every player will want the Kenyan íon in their collection.
Installation is straightforward: using the Allen key supplied with the Iconic Cajon (usually found at the sound hole near the bottom edge), loosen the 8 screws and fit the íon accordingly. Then retighten the screws.
The skin tension — and thus the sound — of the íon can be adjusted. Depending on how tightly the screws are fastened, the tuning of the íon changes. Experiment with a quarter to half turn per screw to hear how the tone changes until you find the sound you like. Make sure, however, that the íon is not too loose.
