The Klowra Whorl Dynamic Rotary Pedal reproduces the characteristic spatial sound of classic rotary speaker systems through detailed physical modeling. Instead of simple modulation, the digital effect pedal simulates the inertia behavior of the treble horn and bass rotor, producing authentic Doppler effects, spatial movement and realistic acceleration and braking behavior. Three distinct cabinet voicings, a dynamic Auto-Spin function and the RPM Step, Spin and Brake modes make the Whorl a versatile rotary speaker pedal for classic vintage tones as well as expressive modern modulation.

Physical Rotary-Speaker Modeling

The sophisticated physical-modeling engine emulates the mechanical properties of a rotating speaker system. It models virtual mass, inertia and motion of the treble horn and bass rotor, among other factors. An authentic bi-amp crossover emulation supports the typical three-dimensional rotary character. The result ranges from slow, floating modulations to intense, swirling sounds inspired by Leslie and Vibratone units, with organic spatial depth.

Three Different Cabinet Voicings

The Voice switch offers three acoustic profiles. Voice I Normal delivers a balanced, classic rotary speaker tone with traditional mic character. Voice II Large Cabinet simulates a larger rotary cabinet and produces more pronounced resonance and a stronger low-end. Voice III Far Mic Distance emulates a greater microphone distance, yielding a more spacious, softer and less direct modulation character.

Precise Control Over Speed and Motion

RATE sets the rotation speed, while the associated LED blinks in sync with the treble horn speed. BAL controls the volume balance between the bass rotor and the treble horn. ACC sets the acceleration during speed changes—from quick transitions to deliberately slow, mechanically sounding ramps. The multifunctional TWEAK knob controls different parameters depending on the selected mode, expanding your hands-on control over the rotary simulation's behavior.

RPM Step, Spin and Brake

Three performance modes open up different playing approaches. RPM Step works like a classic rotary system with two speeds and allows a smooth switch to the second adjustable speed. Spin uses dynamic envelope control so rotation speed responds to your playing dynamics. An adjustable threshold determines when Auto-Spin is triggered. Brake simulates the mechanical braking of the rotary cabinet down to a full stop. Brake time is adjustable via TWEAK, while releasing the switch gently accelerates the rotors back to the set speed.

Flexible Control for Stage and Pedalboard

The momentary footswitch logic enables expressive real-time control while you play. An additional CTRL input accepts an external momentary footswitch to trigger the special functions of the selected mode remotely. Soft-touch relay switching supports quiet switching, and you can choose between true bypass and buffered bypass. This lets the Whorl integrate flexibly into short and long pedalboard signal chains.

High-Quality Digital Signal Processing

The Klowra Whorl is built on the WildSeed Engine and runs with 24-bit AD/DA conversion and 32-bit floating-point DSP at a sample rate of 44.1 kHz. A USB-C port enables firmware updates to keep the digital platform current. In a compact housing, the Whorl combines detailed rotary speaker modeling, dynamic performance features and extensive tone control in a robust modulation pedal for guitar, studio and live use.
