Animal-Inspired, Expressive Synth Sounds for Your Guitar!

The Klowra South Zoo Voice Synth Pedal turns your guitar signal into extraordinary, animal-inspired synthesizer and vocal textures. A polyphonic, triple-voice synthesis combines precise tracking with three distinct sonic characters: Cat, Frog and Horse. The synth engine responds dynamically to your playing and attack strength, so the effect integrates organically into chords, melodies and experimental soundscapes. Use MIX, DETAIL, SPEED and TAILS to shape the character of the synthetic voices in depth. Additional features like Inverted Pitch Follow, Signal Freeze and different tracking behaviors make the South Zoo a creative guitar synth pedal for sound design, ambient, experimental, rock and electronic music.

Three Independent Animal Voice Engines

Use the Voice button to switch between Cat, Frog and Horse. Cat delivers a vocal, wah-like character with dynamic filter movement and a distinctive meow effect. Frog turns decaying notes into rhythmic, repeating synth textures with a characteristic pulsating tone. Horse provides a sharper, more forward character with pronounced high frequencies. The three voicings are not just quirky effects but fully fledged synth timbres for musically playable textures.

Polyphonic Tracking With Dynamic Response

The onboard synthesis is polyphonic, so it handles single notes and full chords. The generated voices react to your attack dynamics: softer playing keeps the synth presence subtle, while harder attacks trigger a richer, more expressive response. That creates a direct link between your performance and the synthetic sound. MIX controls the balance between dry guitar and Animal Voice, while DETAIL shapes the unique tonal character of each voice.

Speed and Tails for Custom Textures

The SPEED control changes the loop speed of the synthesized Animal Voice, letting you create slow-moving soundscapes or fast, rhythmic textures. TAILS sets the length of the decaying Animal sound, so you can choose between short, punchy effects and long, atmospheric tails. Combined with the three voices, this yields a wide palette from subtle modulation to deliberately surreal synthesizer sounds.

Pitch Follow, Flutter and Stretch

The three-way switch selects the tracking behavior and also determines the function triggered by holding the footswitch. In Pitch-Follow mode the synth voice precisely tracks the pitch of your guitar. Holding the switch activates Inverted Pitch Follow: low notes produce high synth voices, while high notes are translated into low sonic ranges. The Normal/Flutter and Normal/Stretch modes disable direct pitch tracking and produce more static, intentionally artificial, lo-fi-style synth textures.

Freeze Function for Endless Soundscapes

In Flutter and Stretch modes you can freeze the Animal Voice by holding the footswitch, creating a continuous synth pad ideal for transitions, ambient passages and experimental sound design. In Flutter mode the SPEED parameter is additionally varied, while Stretch involves changes to the TAILS parameter. The momentary function can also be triggered via an external footswitch for convenient performance control on the pedalboard.

Professional DSP Platform in a Compact Format

The South Zoo is built on Klowra's WildSeed Engine and uses 24-bit AD/DA conversion with 32-bit floating-point DSP at a 44.1 kHz sample rate. The bypass mode can be switched between True Bypass and Buffered Bypass. Soft-touch relay switching provides quiet, comfortable operation. Input and output are 6.3 mm mono jacks, and an additional CTRL jack is provided for an external momentary footswitch. Firmware updates are available via USB-C. In short, the Klowra South Zoo combines experimental voice synthesis with modern digital signal processing and practical pedalboard integration.
