Boss NS-1X - Noise Suppressor and Gate for Guitar, Bass, and Other Electric Instruments!
Never Deal with Noise Again
The NS-1X is based on advanced BOSS MDP technology and cuts unwanted noise and hiss without compromising the natural tone and feel of your guitar or bass. While the Reduction mode keeps your rig quiet in a variety of setups, the Gate mode impresses with ultra-fast response for precise high-gain riffs that always sound sharp and punchy. The NS-1X is an essential, versatile, and intuitive tool that eliminates distracting background noise during practice, performance, and recording.
Modern Noise Suppression
Especially in high-gain setups, noise and background hiss can become a problem when using guitars and basses. The MDP approach in the NS-1X works quickly and transparently in any application, preventing unnatural attack and decay artifacts that can occur with conventional noise suppression systems. To do this, the high-speed digital technology analyzes the input signal in real time on multiple levels, enabling extremely precise signal processing that delivers just the right amount of noise reduction for every playing style or venue.
Highly Versatile
The NS-1X offers different operating modes to tailor noise suppression precisely to your needs.
Reduction mode provides moderate noise suppression, suitable for most instruments and playing styles. Note decay is natural and artifact-free, regardless of pickup type (including single coils with low output voltage).
Gate mode is ideal for high-gain sounds. In this mode, the sound cuts off immediately when no signal is present. The MDP technology enables lightning-fast response unmatched by any other noise reduction pedal. This ensures an extremely natural playing feel with clean note attack for percussive djent riffs, sweep picking, and legato tapping.
Mute mode turns the pedal’s bypass function into a handy mute switch for instrument changes, tuning, and set breaks. When the pedal switch is off, the NS-1X operates in either Reduction or Gate mode.
Fast and Easy Operation
With intuitive controls and a multi-LED display, you can dial in the perfect noise suppression in seconds.
Threshold sets the level at which noise suppression kicks in. In Reduction mode, start with the lowest setting and turn clockwise until unwanted noise disappears. In Gate mode, set to the highest value and turn down until you find your ideal attack response.
Decay sets when maximum noise suppression is reached in the selected mode. Start at the lowest setting and turn clockwise if you want a more natural decay.
Damp controls the maximum degree of noise suppression. Higher values produce a stronger, more noticeable reduction effect. Lower values reduce the effect’s intensity but can yield more natural results for certain playing styles.
Reduction Indicator shows the current noise suppression status.
Precise Signal Detection
The NS-1X circuit detects the signal at the input stage and activates noise suppression at the output stage. It works best when your instrument is connected directly to its input. When using distortion, overdrive, or other noise-prone pedals, it sounds most natural if you connect them through the NS-1X’s send/return loop. This way, the circuit captures a clean input signal while eliminating noise from pedals in the loop, allowing seamless transitions when switching pedals on and off.
High-Quality Noise Suppression for Guitar, Bass, and More
The advanced digital signal processing and wide frequency response of the NS-1X deliver outstanding performance with standard guitars and basses as well as instruments with extra strings and extended range. The NS-1X is also an excellent solution for eliminating noise with keyboards and other electronic instruments.
MDP: Modern Technology and Outstanding Sound
BOSS’s Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) technology is the result of decades of research and development, offering a new approach to achieving exceptional sounds. MDP analyzes different elements of a sound in real time, including frequency, overtones, dynamics, pickup response, and more. It also recognizes many parameters of your playing style, such as note register, single notes or chords, bends, vibrato intensity, and more. Each of these individual elements is then processed uniquely, contributing to an optimized final sound. With its extremely detailed high-tech approach, MDP delivers sound quality and playability far beyond conventional effect processing.
