The compact Katana Head Gen 3 delivers 100 watts of Class-AB power, a unique Bloom option from the top model Katana Artist Gen 3, and an integrated 5" speaker for practicing and monitoring sounds.

With its groundbreaking Tube Logic amplifier design and adjustable Class-AB power stage, the Boss Katana series has earned a solid place in guitarists’ rigs worldwide since its 2016 launch. The Katana amps draw on decades of Boss development experience, combining professional tube-amp-style sound with modern advantages like built-in effects, instant-access presets, deep tone shaping, and reduced weight. With Katana Gen 3, the amps become even more versatile, delivering an unprecedented playing experience.

Optimized Tube Logic Sounds

Tube Logic faithfully reproduces a tube circuit with all its complex interactions down to the smallest detail. The evolution of the five amplifier characters from previous Katana models, including the iconic Brown high-gain amp, continues this approach consistently. The new Pushed character highlights the optimized dynamic processes of the Katana Head Gen 3. Experience the full dynamic gain structure of a clean combo amp driven into saturation. Moreover, all six amplifier characters have a variation, resulting in twelve distinct sounds in total. The Bloom switch takes it a step further by activating a separate circuit that delivers a completely independent tonal behavior. The sound gains a sharper attack and simultaneously a highly dynamic response in the bass range – two qualities rarely achieved at once.

Sweet Spot at Any Volume

Every tube amp fan knows: the louder you turn up the volume, the fuller, richer, and more dynamic the sound becomes. Unfortunately, the volume needed isn’t always suitable for every playing situation. External power limiters often come into play but can cause sound artifacts that affect the amp’s tone and response. The Katana Gen 3’s integrated Power Control combines the best of both worlds: the feel of a fully cranked amp at moderate volume without compromising sound quality. Besides the main output for connecting an external speaker, the amp also features a built-in 5" speaker for easy practice and sound adjustment.

Renowned Boss Effects

The Katana Gen 3 offers five simultaneously usable effect categories, loaded with a variety of effects from Boss’s long history. With direct-access controls and three variations each, the Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb sections provide optimized sounds and a total of 15 individual effects. Boss Tone Studio offers even more possibilities. Here, 60 effect types and numerous detailed parameters allow you to precisely tailor the amp’s internal effects to your preferences. Combined with the optional Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adapter and the BTS Editor app, you can even wirelessly control and tweak your sounds during a gig.

Unrivaled Tone Shaping

The Boss Tone Studio software for Katana Gen 3 models has been visually redesigned and offers new graphical settings to adjust your sound faster and more intuitively. You’ll find numerous tools for amp and effect editing, can change effect order, and shape the overall sound with the 3-way Contour control and multiple EQs to your liking. Beyond global settings and behaviors, you can create and manage your own setups for gigs within the software. Additionally, you have access to the Boss Tone Exchange platform, where you can download pro setups and share your sounds with the worldwide Katana community.

Comprehensive Live Control

The Katana Head Gen 3 provides a range of powerful tools for modern performers. Eight memory slots are available for saving and recalling complete amp and effect setups. On the rear panel, you’ll find separate connections for external control via footswitch, expression pedal, and MIDI. Even more options come with the GA-FC and GA-FC EX foot controllers, which let you comprehensively control your Katana Gen 3 live: switch tone settings, toggle effects on/off, use multiple expression pedals, and more. The GA-FX EX also features an expansion mode for connecting a second GA-FX unit, doubling the number of footswitches or controlling two Katana amps simultaneously.

Expand Your Sound

The Katana Head Gen 3 supports you on all creative paths. Using the Stereo Expand function, you can quickly and easily link two amplifiers. While the main amp controls the master parameters, stereo effects like chorus, delay, and reverb are played through both amps, creating an especially wide and immersive sound. Alternatively, you can use the Power Amp In input to bypass the Katana’s preamp and use the reactive Class-AB power amp as an amplifier for a modeling amp or external preamp.

Flexible Connectivity

With the Katana Head Gen 3’s connection options, you’re ready for any playing situation. Plug in headphones for silent stereo practice. Send a signal via the line output to a PA system. Or use the USB-C port to record your playing in your favorite music software on a computer or mobile device. All audio outputs can be processed with IR speaker sounds, including three Air-Feel types and two customizable settings in Boss Tone Studio.
