This imaginative recorder method for children from about 6 years old has proven itself in teaching for decades. Simple learning steps, many playful ideas for individual and group lessons, well-known old and new children’s songs, beautiful and stylistically diverse pieces from Baroque to folk, consistently four-color illustrations – all this forms the foundation of this successful and practice-tested standard work.

Within a well-thought-out overall concept, "Fun and Play with the Recorder" later leads to playing the alto recorder.

Since the release of Fun and Play with the Recorder in 1990, this method has been a standard work for recorder teaching. After more than 20 years, it seemed sensible to update this proven recorder method by renewing photos and replacing and supplementing songs with more contemporary ones that better reflect the students’ current reality.

Nevertheless, the authors consider it their duty and task to preserve traditional songs, so the new edition creates a mix of tried-and-true and new material. The goal of the method remains a solid technical, musical, and wind-instrument education that on one hand enables a joyful early instrumental approach to the recorder, and on the other hand does not block but meaningfully prepares the path to artistic recorder playing.
