The Standard Work for Young String Players!
After starting with open strings and the simplest note values, the "Calling Third" follows as the basic and orientation interval, especially for learning clean intonation. Using children’s songs, all with lyrics so the melody lines can always be grasped as a whole, all fingers are gradually introduced in the first book, along with note values from whole notes to eighth notes. Special attention is given from the start to reading musical notation; in addition, simple string crossings and basic bowing techniques are practiced.
The book, designed especially child-friendly with enlarged notation and enchanting colorful illustrations, includes a sheet of note cards to cut out, which allow young students to invent numerous laying and guessing games and later also learn scales and note names.
As a companion edition, the first volume of the "Violin Recital Album" (BA 9668), edited by Kurt and Christoph Sassmannshaus and Melissa Lusk, is recommended. It contains 20 pieces in first position with piano accompaniment and an alternative second violin part, enabling young students to showcase their progress in student concerts.
Published in 1976 by Egon Saßmannshaus, one of Germany’s most experienced and renowned violin pedagogues, the violin method "Early Start on the Violin" (The Standard Work for Young String Players) quickly became the most popular and best-selling beginner violin method in the German-speaking world.
"The Saßmannshaus" is one of the most thorough and well-thought-out violin methods for beginners worldwide.
