I'm Becoming a Drummer - Basics for the Young Beginner!

This first part of a multi-volume drum school aims to help learn these fundamentals. Additionally, it offers suggestions and tips to create varied lessons that are fun and motivate the student.

Contents:

The topic-based lessons build step-by-step. Minimal text and more illustrative graphics make learning easier. Each lesson is further divided into smaller sections marked by symbols. The content separation between snare drum and the full drum set supports "targeted" practice. Also, those who only have a snare or a practice pad, or who initially struggle with hand and foot coordination, can work with this school. All lessons end with so-called checklists that repeatedly review the material covered.

The appendix serves as a reference. It summarizes all signs and symbols, warm-up exercises, and rudiments. A small glossary explains the technical and foreign terms used and serves as an index. A play box contains additional games and ideas to liven up lessons.

At the end of this school, there is a notepad and a certificate where stars earned from checklists or games can be recorded. These "star games" are not meant as proof of achievement but rather as motivation aids and should be used accordingly.

About the CD:

The CD includes a booklet in PDF format and various audio files that can be conveniently loaded onto an MP3 player. It can also be used as a regular audio CD.

The booklet offers extra material for different teaching phases, contains the sheet music for the play-alongs, and includes an information sheet for drum beginners. This small brochure is perfect to hand to parents whose kids have just discovered the drum set.

The CD index on page 80 provides a good overview of all audio tracks available for practicing at various tempos. This includes two duets, a canon, and three play-alongs. The piece "First Song" is suitable for reinforcing the patterns on page 19 in the book and getting familiar with "beat" & "timing." "Popcorner" works well when reaching the eighth-note grooves starting on page 49. And for the grand finale "Kick Down," there is now a matching play-along to make the end of the first volume, e.g., at a recital, even more impressive.

N - Which letter is that? Right. That’s an N. Reading and writing are natural for us and learnable by everyone.

The same applies to the signs and symbols of music, the notation. It merely serves to convey something, just as playing technique helps us express an idea or feelings.

The sooner we master these tools, the better we can focus on the content of the music, like reading a book.

Because fun is still the best motivation to learn!
