For many instruments, the right room climate is crucial for long life and preserving optimal sound qualities. Wood, felt, string wire, padding, glues, and finishes can be very sensitive to unsuitable temperature or incorrect humidity. Monitoring humidity and temperature can prevent serious damage (such as drying cracks) and help maintain an instrument’s optimal performance for many years.
Hygrometer and Thermometer
Proper storage of musical instruments is the most important measure to enjoy your instrument for decades. Since wood is a natural product, climatic conditions are extremely important for flawless condition. Especially dry heating air in winter months can be dangerous for clarinets and guitars, for example. The HC-1 offers a simple and effective way to keep an eye on humidity and temperature and react if necessary. The measurement values are displayed in 3 ways:
- The values are shown as numbers on the display, giving a precise impression of the current room air status.
- For a rough but effective assessment, a smiley indicates whether all values are within range or if a limit has been exceeded or fallen below. If humidity is too low or too high, a "Wet" or "Dry" symbol is additionally displayed.
- For long-term monitoring, the HC-1 can simply be left switched on in the room. The display turns off after a few minutes, but if limits are exceeded, the LED flashes at regular intervals. This allows quick checks even "on the go."
Tuner
As a second useful feature, the HC-1 includes a chromatic tuner for all instrument groups. The built-in microphone detects the played note and displays it on the screen with an accuracy of one cent. The standard reference pitch is A at 440 Hz, but the tuner can also be calibrated between 430 Hz and 450 Hz.
Metronome
The third valuable component is a comprehensive metronome function with a tempo range from 40 to 208 bpm (beats per minute) and 10 different beat patterns. The click is output through the built-in speaker, whose volume is adjustable. When using the headphone output, the speaker automatically switches off.
