Die langjährige kreative Partnerschaft zwischen Carlos Santana und Paul Reed Smith hat die Geschicke von PRS Guitars maßgeblich mitbestimmt. Im Laufe der Jahre hat PRS diese entscheidende Allianz gewürdigt, indem Variationen seines Signature-Modells angeboten wurden. Die Santana Retro ist eine Hommage an die frühen "Pre-Factory"-Gitarren, die Paul in den frühen 1980er Jahren für Carlos gebaut hat. Mehrere einzigartige Designelemente werden bei diesem Modell wieder eingeführt, darunter ein tieferer Korpus, der originale Halsfuß sowie die ursprüngliche Kopfplattenform und Sattelposition.
