Grand Feel Compact Action with Weighted Touch and Wooden Keys with Ivory Touch Surface

The CA401 model features the new Grand Feel Compact action with wooden keys, which—thanks to Kawai’s 90 years of piano-building experience—provides an exceptionally realistic playing feel. All 88 keys are made entirely from long wooden parts, with the white keys coated in Ivory Touch to optimize playing control.

Each of the 88 keys moves smoothly on a balance rail, just like on an acoustic grand piano. Thanks to the long keys (especially the length from the front edge to the balance rail pin), playing in the rear part of the keys is eased. The Grand Feel Compact keyboard action includes graded weighted hammers, counterweights in the bass range, and weighted touch simulation. Additionally, the triple sensor system ensures optimal repetition and playing control.

The CA401 digital piano now offers the outstanding sound of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand as a Competition Grand. This unique instrument is used exclusively for international competitions and is valued for its tonal clarity, frequently heard on stages of concert halls and music institutions.

All 88 keys of this exceptional grand piano model were meticulously recorded and analyzed. The unique character of each individual note and the wide dynamic range of the sounds allow pianists to express their emotional playing—from soft pianissimo to powerful fortissimo.

OLED Display with Easy Operation

The highly readable OLED display simplifies operation significantly. All functions can be accessed via the redesigned control panel and OLED display. No operation via the keyboard is necessary.

Additional Features

The powerful lesson function in the CA401 supports aspiring pianists in learning piano through an integrated collection of typical piano lesson etudes by Czerny, Burgmüller, and Beyer, as well as the well-known Alfred piano courses. Each exercise can be played back with variable tempo and individual playback of the left or right hand before being recorded together with the player’s own performance for self-assessment. A four-hand mode, allowing simultaneous playing by teacher and student in the same octave range, is also included.

An intuitive recording function is found in all models of the CA series. The recorder in the CA401 has a maximum recording capacity of about 10,000 notes. Up to 3 songs can be recorded.

SHS Headphone System

Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) is a special feature of the new CA401 that gives the acoustic piano sound more spatial depth over headphones and additionally improves the listening experience over longer periods.

Sound System

Thanks to new audio components and a new power supply, the CA401’s sound system is clearer and more powerful than its predecessor. Distortion-free signal paths with maximum dynamics provide high resolution and pure sound.

Bluetooth Audio / Bluetooth MIDI

In addition to the USB-to-host connection, the CA401 is equipped with Bluetooth MIDI technology, enabling wireless communication with smart devices (e.g., smartphone or tablet). This allows you to comfortably use a wide range of music-related apps such as the Kawai PianoRemote app or the PiaBookPlayer app in conjunction with your CA401 digital piano.

Or simply use the Bluetooth Audio interface. Just connect your smartphone to the CA401 and enjoy all your music directly through the CA401’s speaker system. This is especially recommended for play-along.

Adjustable Music Stand

The music stand’s angle can be adjusted—like on a grand piano—to suit the player’s position. If needed, the CA series music stand can also be laid completely flat. The new music stand pins effectively prevent sheet music from slipping.

Grand Feel Pedal System

The CA401 is equipped with the Grand Feel Pedal System. This Kawai-developed system matches the resistance of the three pedals (sustain, soft, and sostenuto) to the pedal feel of a Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand. Proper pedal positioning has also been carefully considered.
