Lechgold Deluxe F - A True Alphorn Dream!

Lechgold alphorns captivate with their original, warm tone, which unfolds best outdoors but also fills large concert halls or arenas. When we hear the magical sound of the alphorn, we immediately associate it with breathtaking mountain landscapes and beautiful nature...

Top Price, Solid Craftsmanship, Ideal Intonation!

Lechgold lets you enjoy this emotional and extraordinary experience at an unbeatable price-performance ratio. The range includes the F horn, which is the most widely played in Austria and Germany, the F# horn preferred by the Swiss, and the slightly smaller alphorn tuned in B-flat.

The three-piece Lechgold alphorns consist of hand tube, middle tube and bell tube and are supplied including a firmly glued bell, a foot piece and a standard 19 mm wooden mouthpiece.

Easy and Clean Response

Round tone, clean tuning and easy response — these are priorities in the manufacture of Lechgold alphorns. With a thin wall thickness of 7 mm and a bell diameter of 200 mm, the intonation-stable and well-balanced alphorns score with easy and clean response.

The alphorn is made of spruce. It is wrapped with durable peddigrohr, which is resistant to external influences such as shocks and impacts and, of course, increases the instrument's basic stability.

The bell foot and mouthpiece knob are made from solid maple; the bell ring is made of cherry.

Gold-Anodized & Completely Airtight Connection Sockets

The tubes' connection sockets are gold-anodized and therefore extremely abrasion-resistant.

Stability, perfect fit and absolute airtightness are ensured by three rubber sealing rings at the connection sockets between hand tube and middle tube as well as between middle tube and bell tube. This highest-quality connection technique was adopted from the Lechgold "Spitzenklasse" model and is now used on all Lechgold alphorns.

The Mouthpiece

As the standard mouthpiece, Lechgold supplies a maple mouthpiece with a 19 mm internal cup diameter and a 5.5 mm bore. These are dipped in linseed oil and varnished several times.

The conical mouthpiece of an alphorn resembles a French horn in shape and timbre. Besides the shape, the wood of the mouthpiece also influences the brightness of the tones.

100% Made in Austria

Lechgold alphorns are crafted by hand from Austrian woods of the higher Alpine regions. It is important that the tree grew slowly so that the growth rings lie close together, allowing improved vibration. The wood is dried slowly over several years to avoid tensions and warping.

Other Tunings via Optional Hand Tubes

By using a different hand tube, the tuning of the alphorn can be changed quickly and easily. This option allows you to play a larger repertoire of pieces without having to carry a complete second instrument. That saves weight, space and money.

Our range includes hand tubes in all tunings (F, B-flat and F#) and configurations.

The Natural Harmonic Series of the Alphorn

Unlike keyboard and plucked instruments, alphorns produce only tones of the natural harmonic series. This series consists of tones whose frequencies are integer multiples of the fundamental (e.g. F horn = 43.654 Hz). Depending on the instrument's tuning, this natural series covers 12 to 16 different tones.

Conveniently, the natural tones are the same as those of conventional wind instruments. Thus the natural series of an F alphorn corresponds to that of an F tuba or an F French horn. The series of B-flat tuned instruments corresponds to that of a B-flat trombone. Switching to an alphorn is therefore easy if you already play a "standard" wind instrument.
