Origin

XDrum singing bowls are manufactured in India using an elaborate process. While they were once used mainly as cooking and eating vessels in the Himalayas, Buddhist monks discovered the bowls as a meditation aid and gave them a completely new purpose.

Handmade Unique Pieces

XDrum singing bowls are painstakingly handcrafted from seven materials. This alloy consists of the metals copper, zinc, iron, nickel, aluminium, silver and gold. The exact composition can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. To achieve the final shape and individual sound, the alloy is hammered into the desired form over a fire. In the process it is often heated and cooled up to 30 times.

Unlike machine-made singing bowls, XDrum's handcrafted models are unique pieces. A certain tolerance in the bowl's diameter and weight is perfectly normal and does not indicate any reduction in quality.

Handling

To generate the soothing sounds and vibrations, the singing bowls are struck or rubbed with a mallet. In this way the bowl can even be made to sing. When several bowls are played simultaneously, a distinct, enchanting sound pattern emerges.

Cushion

The singing bowl cushion serves as a base for the Tibetan singing bowl and affects the bowl's timbre and vibration behaviour. It prevents the tone from being influenced by the surface—e.g. a table, floor, etc.—or by other background noises when the bowl is struck. This ensures a warm, long-lasting and soft tone.
