The approx. 80cm long dulcimer guitar (or is it a dulcimer strumstick?) lies very well in the hand and plays almost by itself almost everything that comes to mind! The "almost" in both cases is of course due to the diatonic structure of the frets where indeed almost no wrong chords are possible. I was able to play a simple song right away, which I wouldn't be able to do on a chromatic instrument I don't know (e.g. a banjo).
Amazing and great what sustain and volume can come out of a 2cm deep body. Sound and tone structure sound very much like past centuries, it can play countless folk songs and other traditionals, but also other improvisations will certainly be good.

String action, action, impeccable.
However, 4 instead of 5 ** there is for the somewhat sparse finishing of the Merlin, it is indeed satin, so very smoothly sanded and somewhat oiled. Here, a little more effort, even at a more expensive price, would not have hurt. Likewise, the slightly better processing of the frets at the edges would not have been wrong.

All in all: a recommendation for friends of unusual instruments that are also still playable!

Wanted to build me such a thing for a long time, at the price, completely unnecessary. Godin stands for fine clean work, so the Merlin also sounds, unamplified surprisingly loud for such a small thing, to an amp, WOW :-) Heavy thrilled am

It is so much fun that it is hard to put down: very addictive. The whole family plays it. After 15 minutes of practice, my 8 year old daughter could already play a song on it. I am very happy with it. It's nice that it has a tuner...I wouldn't recommend it unless you have some spare time :)

An instrument that is simply fun to play. Very easy to learn and flexible in use.
The pickup is unfortunately not usable with my radio system. It occurs then a whistling. So connect the instrument with cable.
The entire surface seems to be untreated or just lightly oiled. Could lead in the long term, especially on the neck, to unsightly stains.
Ansonstn but a top instrument for a small price. Super processing.

Surprisingly voluminous sound for such a small instrument!
