Yamaha’s unique acoustic system with integrated brass bell offers you the best of both worlds—high-quality digital sound with the full expressiveness of an acoustic wind instrument. This new, advanced system consists of the speaker unit, housing, an acoustic tube, and a real brass bell.

The result is an instrument that breathes, moves, and resonates with your playing, giving you the expressive feel of an acoustic saxophone combined with the extensive possibilities of a digital instrument.

Brass Bell

The high-quality brass bell is made from the same material as Yamaha’s acoustic saxophones. Based on extensive know-how and experience in building acoustic instruments, this bell was designed to beautifully reproduce the long reverberation characteristic of wind instruments, as well as the subtle tonal nuances in pianissimo playing.

Moreover, the authentic resonance makes the entire instrument vibrate, allowing you to truly feel the music as you play.

Mouthpiece & Breath Sensor

To enable the most natural, expressive, and comfortable playing style possible, the YDS-150 features a mouthpiece that corresponds to that of an acoustic saxophone. It can be easily removed for cleaning.

Simply by blowing into the mouthpiece and pressing the keys with correct fingering, you can produce a perfect acoustic saxophone sound—like a professional musician—without needing a perfect embouchure. The YDS-150 has a breath sensor that detects the intensity or pressure of your airflow, so you can control not only the volume but also the tone precisely.

Key Layout

The YDS-150’s key layout was developed based on Yamaha’s top acoustic saxophone model—for the most natural playability and smooth fingering feel. Additionally, you can use the accompanying app to change the fingering and customize it to your needs.

Single Note Sampling By Professional Players

The YDS-150 uses sampled sounds from Yamaha’s acoustic soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, played by professional musicians and meticulously recorded in single notes. So you won’t hear any tones generated by interpolation.

Authentic Sound Of 4 Saxophone Types & 56 Presets For All Music Styles

With the YDS-150, you can instantly change the tuning, range, and tone color of each saxophone type—soprano, alto, tenor, or baritone. Moreover, each saxophone type offers different sounds that correspond to various playing techniques and music styles, from vibrato playing to jazz and classical music.

In total, the YDS-150 features 73 instrument sounds (incl. 56 saxophone tones) and many other instrument sounds—including electronic instruments and acoustic wind instruments like shakuhachi, Irish whistle, and more. With these, you can play authentically in virtually any music genre.

External Connection Options: AUX In and Bluetooth

The YDS-150 is equipped with an AUX input to connect to external audio sources like smartphones and audio players for jamming along. Available only when using headphones or output via the headphone jack.

Via Bluetooth, you can not only connect the YDS-150 to the app but also stream music from external sources. You can also use the digital saxophone as a Bluetooth MIDI controller.

The Yamaha YDS-150 comes with a sturdy soft case that lets you transport the instrument quickly and safely.

The dynamic Classic Cantabile KH-238 stereo headphones offer excellent sound characteristics combined with outstanding wearing comfort. The volume control integrated into the cable is always at hand, simplifying use. The 3.5 mm stereo jack provides top transmission quality. Included is an adapter to 6.3 mm jack.

Comfort Is Key

Of course, the softly padded, wide headband is adjustable in length. The extension offers 12 steps per side for optimal fit. For even more comfort, the ear cups are mounted on two axes for rotation. The thick, soft padding of the circumaural cups also provides good external noise isolation.
