Active Studio Monitor in Coaxial Design!
The FX enclosure stays true to the original "keyhole" design of the F series but now features a complex front baffle with a radius that not only looks cool but also improves cabinet diffraction.
Coaxial Driver
A 30mm silk dome tweeter is mounted coaxially in the center of the woofer. This technology (unique in this price range) makes it a "point source" device, meaning all sound is emitted from a single point—not from points 10" apart. This is crucial for improving off-axis response and also allows for a more compact enclosure. Another advantage of coaxial studio monitors is phase coherence, which significantly enhances clarity and imaging.
Boundary Compensation DIP Switch
Sometimes the rooms we mix in aren’t acoustically ideal (especially when working in a home studio). The FX series monitors feature DSP-controlled EQ switches for boundary compensation, allowing you to adjust for rooms that may not be "tuned" or need adaptation due to proximity to the rear wall. A handy guide on the back explains the DIP switch functions. A more detailed explanation is available in the user manual.
Class-D and DSP Controlled
The FX80v2 is a Class-D bi-amp studio monitor. Class D offers clean, reliable power, more headroom, lower power consumption, and less heat generation. It also includes powerful standalone DSP integration. The digitally controlled crossover ensures smoother and more consistent playback from each monitor. The new FX series is a true 21st-century reference monitor, right at home in any recording studio.
Front LED Indicator
The illuminated LED on the front panel not only shows whether the FX monitor is on, off, or in standby mode but also serves as an alignment aid to help you position your speakers correctly at ear level.
V2 Improvements
Fluid Audio took customer feedback to heart and made several improvements to the FX series. The biggest is a general flattening of the frequency response. Additional EQ biquads were identified and applied to areas that could benefit from flattening. The result is a more even frequency response, ideal for mixing. Another upgrade is the updated control panel graphics, now larger and easier to read.

A Coaxial Monitor for the 21st Century
Fluid Audio’s coaxial speaker design differs significantly from conventional coaxial designs. In 1950s and 60s coaxial studio monitors, the tweeter was behind the woofer, so the high frequencies were "ported" through the woofer’s voice coil opening. This design effectively used the woofer cone as a waveguide or horn. Since the woofer cone constantly moves (sometimes dramatically when reproducing bass frequencies), significant intermodulation distortion and audible smearing occur when high frequencies radiate from the woofer cone.
In the Fluid Audio FX series coaxial design, the high-frequency device is positioned in front of the woofer and mounted at a fixed point. The tweeter is housed in a hard plastic waveguide that allows uninterrupted high-frequency flow, preventing audio distortion caused by woofer cone movement. Using integrated DSP, 48 and 36 dB per octave Linkwitz-Riley slopes not only perfectly blend low and high frequencies but also filter out acoustic anomalies common in coaxial designs (since the tweeter lacks a full-size baffle to radiate from). In addition to these unique benefits, users gain all other known advantages of a coaxial driver—symmetrical off-axis response (creating a larger, more even, and consistent sweet spot) and the "point source" characteristic, which enables better phase coherence between drivers, resulting in extremely realistic imaging. Whether upright or lying on its side, the Fluid coaxial design performs consistently, making studio placement easier and more user-friendly.
Front-Loaded Slot Port Design
The bass reflex slot port tunes the enclosure to maximize the speaker’s bass output efficiency. Positioned on the front, it directs bass energy not only straight to the listener but also allows flexible placement in your studio.
Updated Tweeter Protective Grill
The FX’s coaxial design, with the tweeter suspended in the center of the woofer, is very robust, providing excellent protection for the woofer itself. However, the tweeter also needs protection, so a small perforated steel grill was added to shield the delicate silk dome tweeter.
"Imaging and Depth"
It’s one thing to put high-quality speaker drivers in an amplifier enclosure and call it a great speaker. For a transparent reference monitor, that’s just the beginning. Careful crossover designs and listening sessions were conducted not only to optimize a flat on-axis frequency response but also to achieve the sound depth that has become a hallmark of Fluid Audio monitors. This ensures your mix sounds great not only on your FX speakers but also on speaker systems outside the studio.
Rear Mounting Points
M6 screw mounts and included screws allow wall or ceiling mounting with the LD Systems SAT WMD 10 bracket. Combined with the lightweight Class-D amplifiers, this is the perfect solution for Dolby ATMOS and other immersive systems requiring overhead or surround audio channels.
