The Tascam DR-40XP is a portable four-track audio recorder and USB-C audio interface for musicians, filmmakers, YouTubers, vloggers, content creators and field recording. With 32-bit float recording, sample rates up to 96 kHz, low-noise Tascam HDDA mic preamps and adjustable stereo condenser microphones, it delivers clean, detailed sound for rehearsals, concerts, interviews, nature recordings, podcasts, video and mobile music production. The built-in microphones can be used as AB or XY stereo pairs, offering either a wide stereo image or a particularly phase-stable recording.

Flexible Recording for Music and Video

The DR-40XP records up to four tracks simultaneously and can combine the built-in microphones with external sources when needed. The XLR/1/4-inch combo jacks accept microphones, line sources or signals from a mixing console. Switchable phantom power at 24 V or 48 V makes the recorder compatible with condenser microphones. For video shoots it also offers practical features such as a slate clap signal, a stereo line output via 3.5 mm mini jack and precise timing accuracy.

32-Bit Float and Powerful Audio Performance

The 32-bit float resolution helps capture clean recordings even with wide-ranging levels. WAV/BWF recordings are possible at 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz or 96 kHz, and the recorder also supports MP3 up to 320 kbps. The HDDA preamps offer an equivalent input noise of = -126 dBu, a dynamic range of = 112 dB and a frequency response up to 40 kHz at 96 kHz sampling.

Practical for On-the-Go and Studio Use

As a USB-C audio interface, the DR-40XP works with Mac, Windows and iOS devices with two inputs and two outputs. For mobile use it supports microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards up to 512 GB. Power comes from three AA batteries, NiMH rechargeables, lithium batteries, USB or an optional AC adapter. With lithium batteries you can get up to 29:30 hours of stereo recording using the built-in microphones.

Operation With Useful Recording Tools

Overdub, punch-in, auto record, pre-record, low-cut filters, limiter, level adjustment, markers, loop function, variable playback speed, reverb and a chromatic tuner make the DR-40XP a versatile mobile recorder. The backlit display, the QUICK button and multilingual menus simplify operation during recording, rehearsals, live captures and sound design.
