The Pronomic P-152E is a professional, ultra-light 2-channel power amplifier, especially suited for monitor use in sound reinforcement or for passive speakers in the studio or at home. Thanks to excellent sound characteristics, the amplifier impresses not only the test equipment in the lab but also the ear. It operates almost silently. Naturally, the amplifier also offers protection circuits against short circuit and excessive temperature.
Clear Control Panel
The front is clear and practical: next to the power switch are the stepped controls for input sensitivity as well as status and level indicator LEDs. The level indicator works in three stages to better assess the input signal strength. When the "Clip" LEDs light up, the level should be reduced to avoid distortion or even damage.
Flexible Rear Panel
Conveniently, both inputs are designed as combo jacks, allowing the use of both jack and XLR plugs. Between the jacks is the stereo/mono switch, which is useful, for example, when driving two rooms. In mono mode, both input channels are output on both outputs. For forwarding to additional devices, a thru output in XLR format is available, through which the signal present at the input jacks (depending on switch position) is output in stereo or mono. I could hardly notice any heat development.
Unfortunately, the 4cm fan, as is 'usual' with such fans, is not exactly quiet and it also does not seem to be temperature-controlled.
There is a 'considerable' crosstalk between the channels, i.e. if there is only a signal on one channel, it cracks and crackles clearly on the other channel (even if the level control there is set to 0).
As soon as there is also a signal there, you don't hear it anymore. (So it seems to be due to the supply voltage ...)
In normal operation with signal on both channels (e.g. stereo) and moderate volume this should not disturb.
Under 'full load' - i.e. driven until shortly before clipping - the built-in buffer capacity seems to be finally insufficient for the Class D amplifier chip.
This is noticeable by a clear loss of sound quality if you want to use the full power - but who normally wants that.
In the low to medium output range I could not detect (i.e. hear) any distortion.
It is therefore better to use this amplifier only with 8 Ohm speakers to avoid this overload effect.
A minus point is for me the wiring of the Speakon sockets. There is the same channel available on each of the sockets on connection pair 1 and 2.
A tapping of both channels via a 4-pin cable is therefore not possible.
