Design
Except for the strings, the entire harp is made out of beech wood. To improve the resonance of the instrument, the body is composed of only 2 pieces: The body is made of one piece of beech wood, to which a top made of beech is glued. The curved bridge (also made of beech) transmits the vibrations of the strings to the resonating body.
Strings and tuning
Unlike ordinary harps, this Lyra harp is strung with ordinary guitar strings. This makes the search for replacement strings much easier. For a complete new stringing you only need 2 sets of acoustic guitar strings, leaving out the lowest strings of each set. The tuning mechanisms correspond to those of a harp, which are operated with the tuning key.
The 10 strings of the harp can be tuned in two different ways: Diatonic: To be able to play concrete melodies and songs, the strings are tuned - starting with the small d - in the tones of the C major scale, i.e.: d-e-f-g-a-h-c'-d'-e'-f' Pentatonic: For free improvisation or for example in children's education, the strings are tuned in the tones d-e-g-a-h-d'-e'-g'-a'-h'.
