For all friends of Celtic (and other natural) music, the 12-string Celtic Harp from Classic Cantabile offers feel-good sounds for everyone.

Tuning

The twelve strings are tuned diatonically in C major, with the blue and red strings indicating where the notes C and F are located. To tune the instrument, the two tuning keys are used: while the square key is applied to the tuning pegs, the hexagonal key is used for the fine tuners on the opposite side. With harps, it is completely normal that the strings need to be retuned regularly during the first few weeks. However, once the strings have stretched sufficiently, the tuning will last even longer.

Bag included

The soft padded bag offers your musical instrument not only sufficient protection from dust and scratches, in the outer pocket there's even enough space for the two tuning keys and other accessories.

Harp songbook

From structure, tuning and posture of the harp to different plucking techniques, the most important skills are worked out on the basis of the songs. You get a detailed explanation of each exercise in the additional videos, which are available as download.

Music stand

The stand can be adjusted twice in height and folds up compactly for transport. Due to the wide music rest, this music stand is also perfectly suitable for thick music books.

Tuner

The CT-1 tuner with chromatic tuning function is the perfect companion for musicians and fits with its extremely handy dimensions in any pocket. A three-digit display shows the current tuning (Low, Tuned, High).

The most important thing: the harp is really fine! I am a full-time musician and now have a small collection of instruments. This is my first harp - so of course I'm not an expert. But after tuning it several times over a few days, it now holds its tuning quite well, looks well made and sounds nice. And it's a €100 instrument, not a concert harp, of course it can't produce that sound, but it sounds nice and works and is really fun to play!

Music stand, tuner, bag, everything is okay, practical, easy to use.

And then the harp school: a very thin booklet designed for beginners (explanation of note values and rests), but with too little explanation, and of course completely uninteresting for musicians in this respect. The tuning of the harp is briefly explained, but not only for this harp, but also for other harps, which can be confusing.

The rest is a few explanations and completely uninteresting pieces, and if the right hand plays "Ringel Ringel Reihe" and the left hand plays a C as accompaniment, then that's copyright and arranged by the harpist (honestly, she's above everyone!).

The instructional videos are jerky Quicktime files (mov) in portrait format (!) filmed to a ticking metronome, the harpist plays the pieces once through to rhythmic clicking without further explanation. Then there are 8 GB playalongs, which I didn't download because the pieces aren't that interesting.

Okay, unfair, because she's a musician, but yesterday evening was a fun scraping and plinking of Christmas carols on various instruments, and if you know a thing or two about stringed instruments, you quickly understand how to play a simple accompaniment with your left hand on the harp and a melody on the right at the same time. Limited by the framework of the C major scale.

Conclusion: The set is okay, but the school is useless, so if you don't need a music stand or tuner: just buy the harp!
