Chimes are a percussion instrument, that features chimes of different lengths (usually below 25cm) made from metal. These are closely attached side by side hanging on a carrier and sounds are obtain from highest to lowest bar (and vice versa) in a train struck with a mallet or the fingernails. The actual sound is created here by the clashing of the adjacent metal bars. They generate a descending tone similar to a harp.

There are also chimes made ??of wood, bamboo, shells or glass, which are then referred accordingly.
