Stainless steel handpans have a significantly longer sustain than models made of nitrided steel, making them especially suitable for slow, relaxing, and meditative playing. The D Amara tuning (fundamental frequency 440 Hz) is one of the most popular handpan scales overall. The central note in the middle of the handpan is D3, surrounded in a circular layout by the notes A3, C4, D4, E4, F4, G4, A4, and C5. Thanks to its bright-sounding D minor scale, the D Amara allows for a wide range of melodies from calm and meditative to melancholic and even powerful and joyful.
