Acoustic System with Integrated Bell

Yamaha's unique acoustic system with an integrated brass bell gives you the best of both worlds — high-quality digital sound with the full expressiveness of an acoustic wind instrument. This advanced system consists of the speaker unit, the housing, an acoustic tube and a real brass bell.

It responds to your airflow into the mouthpiece and digitally produces a sound that drives the speakers and sets the brass bell vibrating. In fact, the whole instrument vibrates with the sound, and that vibration comes back to you — to your mouth via the mouthpiece and to your fingertips from the keys.

The result is an instrument that breathes, moves and resonates with your playing, delivering the expressive feel of an acoustic saxophone combined with the broad possibilities of a digital instrument.

Mouthpiece

To enable the most natural, expressive and comfortable playing, the YDS-150 features a mouthpiece equivalent to that of an acoustic saxophone. It can be removed easily for cleaning.

Key Layout

The saxophone's key layout is critical for playability and the feel under your fingers. The YDS-150 was developed based on Yamaha's top acoustic saxophone models for the most natural playability and smooth fingering. Additionally, you can use the companion app to change the fingering and tailor it to your own needs.

Brass Bell

The high-quality brass bell is made from the same material used in Yamaha's acoustic saxophones. Drawing on our extensive know-how and Yamaha's experience building acoustic instruments, we designed this bell to reproduce the long sustain characteristic of wind instruments and the subtle tonal nuances of pianissimo playing. Furthermore, the authentic resonance sets the whole instrument vibrating and lets you truly feel the music as you play.

Single-Note Sampling by Professional Players

The YDS-150 uses sampled sounds from Yamaha's acoustic soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, recorded by professional players and meticulously captured as single notes. So you won't hear tones created by interpolation.

Authentic Sound of the 4 Saxophone Types - 56 Presets Covering All Musical Styles

With the YDS-150 you can instantly change the tuning, range and timbre of each saxophone type — soprano, alto, tenor or baritone. Each saxophone type also offers different saxophone timbres suited to various playing techniques and musical styles, from vibrato playing and jazz to classical music.

In total the YDS-150 offers 73 instrument sounds, including 56 saxophone timbres, plus many other instrument sounds — including electronic instruments and acoustic wind instruments like shakuhachi, Irish whistle and more — so you can play authentically across virtually any musical genre.
