Der KRK V4 ist ein Zwei-Wege, full-range Referenzmonitor mit professioneller Performance und absoluter Präzision für Recording, Mixing und Mastering. Er besitzt einen eigens von KRK entwickelten 1" Kevlar Tweeter und einen leichten, KRK eigenen, geflochtenen 4" Kevlar Woofer. Durch die Verwendung von Kevlar für sowohl Woofer, als auch den Tweeter, haben die Monitore seidige Höhen, präzise Bässe und eine extrem dynamische und definierte Mitten-Wiedergabe ohne jegliche Färbung. Darüber hinaus haben die Monitore einen breiten Sweet Spot und eine beeindruckende Raumabbildung. Der KRK eigene 85 Watt Class-D Verstärker ermöglicht schnellste Transientenwiedergabe und bis zu 110 dB SPL.
Das Gehäuse mit vorne sitzender Bassreflexöffnung verhindert Überlagerungen im Bassbereich bei wandnaher Aufstellung und gewährleistet so Flexibilität bei der Platzierung. 49 verschiedene DSP gesteuerte Equalizerpresets bieten umfassende Möglichkeiten bei suboptimalen Raumbedingungen, aber auch für den eigenen Stil oder persönlichen Geschmack.

Alternatives were the Neumann KH80, Genelec 8010 & 8020 and the Adam A3x. Price-wise only the A3X, the 8010 and the KRK v4s4 came into question. I had discarded the 8010 because of the low bass response, cheaper models I discarded because I was looking for a professional working tool, and all monitors in the sub-200€ class are then quite entry level. I had heard the Adam A3X at an earlier time, they had seemed a bit boomy to me in the upper bass range. So I ordered the KRK and tried them out. And what can I say: The speakers convinced me quite a bit. Super sharpness, wide panorama and good depth. The old Rokits (up to G3) are tuned quite differently than these speakers.
The bass is quite decent for the size, but not really sufficient for (deep) bass-heavy music. Here you need a subwoofer or a subpack. However, I was surprised that bad mixes literally jump out at you in the bass range, so the monitors are somehow still good for judging the bass range. For now, the bass performance is enough for me, but that's also a compromise with the cabinet and room size. Later I might expand the setup with a subpack.
